gauchoperezoso Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 thanx a lot Bruno.all the upgrades are installed.but still a lot of things dont work as they should.for example i dont know why the sound is ok but in online games i dont hear anything.i am talking not only about chess.for some reason it is all so silent .and one more thing-how do i configure sound events?i knew how to do it on fedora but here i have no clue.ohh, and the last thing how do i get kaffeine player and mplayer to work properly cuz neither wants to play dvd or movie files respectively. ikerekes Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 GauchoThe answer for your last question is fairly simple, we don't set up the symlink of /dev/dvd to the dvd device (we could never find out a sure way to detect which is the dvd, wich is the cdrom device) typically the dvd would be /dev/hdc or /dev/hdd.Sorry I didn't follow your thread you probable posted already your fstab which is your dvd vs cdrom anyways it is easy to set up the symlink simply enter as root ln -s /dev/hdX /dev/dvd where X is the dvd drive (mine is dev/hdd so the X would be d).The reply for the rest of your questions is not as simple, the notifications in the KDE CC sound System Notification, but you might have to edit your knotifyrc, as for the nosound in games probable somebidy else (who is a gamer) would know the answer Quote
gauchoperezoso Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 thank you ikerekes .it does help but i dont quite know how to check which is my cdrom and which one is dvd.how do i check it?thank you once more anyway Quote

Bruno Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 I am not a gamer either . . . but I can help you with the dvd:post: # cat /etc/fstab We will do the soundevents later . . . BrunoPS: Thanks Ivan for jumping in !! (n would not have known ther aws no symlink . . so that saves a lot of time in searching Quote

BrunoPS: I see it mounts on /mnt/cdrom . . but that should not be a problem . . . you could change that to /mnt/dvd but that is not really needed Quote
