longgone Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 That was the link that Ryan posted to me.... it was from Linux.com ... web site ... one thing I was curious abouy was the ~ and what it was used for......... Quote
Bruno Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 LOL . . . . . but there was another line in that article just under the quote you posted: It wouldn't hurt to browse through the two applications' directory hierarchies to get this distinction clear in your head before beginning -- it's not tricky, but if you have a lot of folders to migrate, it might get tedious and confusion could trip you up. . . . . . and the guy who wrote this was right :DB) Bruno Quote
longgone Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 Bruno,,,,Uh huh ... I read the whole article.... and my understanding was that to do it ... you were doing a one to one folder transfer .. from evolution to thunderbird .... don't know how long that would have taken .... but I feel the way you went about was probably a lot faster............. Quote
longgone Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 Bruno,,,,,, done deal .... F/F 1.0 installed ... now only one minor objective remains to be figured out/accomplished .............. Quote
Bruno Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 . now only one minor objective remains to be figured out/accomplished ..............Let me guess . . . the plugins ???#  cp  /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/*  /home/dale/firefox/plugins/ Bruno Quote
longgone Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 Wellll... no that was not it .. but since you made it readily available .. I did that and it must have been good since I did not get any errors returned... Quote
longgone Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 It isn't a problem ,,, I could survive without it but I would like to shrink the firefox icon from the theme I am using down to fit in the task bar and use it as the shortcut to the browser Quote
Bruno Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 ???? . . . shrink it ?? . . Just drag the shortcut on the taskbar and it will reduce in size automatically . . . :DB) Bruno Quote
longgone Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 .... Not quite that easy ... the one I want is from the "help" section at the top of the web page,,click on help and then click on about mozilla firefox and the icon that I have there is what I would like to use ......... Quote
Bruno Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 That is the icon you will find in /home/dale/firefox/icons . . . . . There is a big and a small one Bruno Quote
longgone Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 Uh huh ... but that is default ... I got a slickery aftermarket one installed ....... Quote
Bruno Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 looks the same to me as the one in the screenshot in my first post of this thread . . . . and that is the "help --> about" dialog . . . ** splitting off a few posts to your thunderbird thread . . . Bruno Quote
longgone Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 .... This is true but I have changed the theme from the default theme and that also changed the icon that was/is under thr help heading ... I am using the theme NOIA extreme from the themes secxtion under the tools heading ... Quote
Bruno Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Aaaaaa . . . Oooooooo . . . . well I don't know where it stores/hides those icons . . . . sorry Bruno Quote
longgone Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 ... Darn the luck ... oh well .... reckon I'll just make do with the gear then.. Quote

Bruno Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Hi DaleDid you push the "upgrade" button in your brand new FireFox ?? . . . My advice: delete this one and start again getting the fresh new file, we will look after the plugins later as I come back from work.Found this in another post : Hear, Hear ,,, ebrke ...... I too .... made the mistake of clicking on that update button in the upper right corner ,,,,,,,, KA-POW ..... all the plug-ins (java& flash) are gone ... far, far away......... ( Why are you upgrading a browser when you have got the very latest release ? ) Bruno Quote
longgone Posted November 10, 2004 Author Posted November 10, 2004 ( Why are you upgrading a browser when you have got the very latest release ? crying.gif ) good question .... why was the little upgrade botton flashing to get my attention for the upgrades... Quote
teacher Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Do you possibly have two versions running on your computer and are opening the old instead of the new? Quote
longgone Posted November 10, 2004 Author Posted November 10, 2004 shouldn"t be .. did have 1.0PR ... d/l 1.0 final ... deleted 1.0PR folder from home directory .... then unpacked the 1.0 final and all was good to the best of my knowledge.... then I clicked on that UPDATE button .... after that was when I became aware of the missing "plug-ins" when I went to visit one of those web sites ...,,For Bruno .... I have not as yet removed anything since your last post .. but I did redownload from the link you posted the F/F package .... BUT .. instead of it saying it is 1.0 ,,, now it is saying 2.0 ... I am holding off on doing anything until this slight inconsistancy is clarified .... Quote
Bruno Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Hi DaleFirst, I have been looking at that "update" button . . . but no matter what I do I can not find it ( well, there is something in the preferences dialogs about checking for updates but that is all I see, my advice is to uncheck those settings, we do not want to get alarmed every time mozilla thinks they should get us all up in arms )Second: Is the FireFox you are using now still working okay ? ( I know about the plugins, but we will deal with that later. )Third, I downloaded the file again myself and for me it still is 1.0 . . . would you mind to do: # ls -al /home/dale Bruno Quote
longgone Posted November 10, 2004 Author Posted November 10, 2004 Bruno,,,,,,The update button I referred to WAS (gone now) located right next to the "circle of dots" upper right just beneath the ... minimize, maximize, close boxes.... it was there, said updates were available when I moved the cursor over it so I clicked on it to d/l the updates ..... I must in all fairness say though that I do not know if the plug-ins were already gone or not ... but I have the 2.0 (?????) d/l in the home directory still unpacked and here is the infoPassword:[root@localhost dale]# ls -al /home/daletotal 16768drwxr-xr-x 28 dale dale  4096 Nov 10 02:33 ./drwxr-xr-x 3 root root  4096 Aug 12 18:48 ../-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale  8004 Oct 14 12:17 04011801.gif-rw------- 1 dale dale  1233 Nov 9 11:44 .bash_history-rw-r--r-- 1 dale dale   24 Aug 12 18:48 .bash_logout-rw-r--r-- 1 dale dale 191 Aug 12 18:48 .bash_profile-rw-r--r-- 1 dale dale 124 Aug 12 18:48 .bashrc-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale 55309 Oct 16 12:17 cg18_5.jpg-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale 110 Aug 29 17:44 .csmashrc-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale   56 Nov 10 02:06 .DCOPserver_localhost__0lrwxrwxrwx 1 dale dale   35 Nov 10 02:06 .DCOPserver_localhost_:0 -> /home/dale/.DCOPserver_localhost__0-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale   12 Aug 12 19:00 .desktopdrwx------ 3 dale dale  4096 Nov 6 22:11 Desktop/-rw------- 1 dale dale   26 Aug 12 18:58 .dmrcdrwxr-xr-x 2 dale dale  4096 Aug 12 19:00 Documents/-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale  0 Aug 12 18:58 .drakfw-rw------- 1 dale dale   16 Aug 12 19:32 .esd_authdrwx------ 8 dale dale  4096 Nov 9 01:34 evolution/-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale  1168 Oct 1 02:53 .fbhighlevelshistory-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale 532 Oct 1 02:53 .fbhighscoresdrwxrwxr-x 2 dale dale  4096 Aug 18 22:11 .fblevels/-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale 545 Oct 1 02:28 .fbrcdrwxr-xr-x 12 dale dale  4096 Nov 7 13:28 firefox/-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale 8223869 Nov 9 04:40 firefox-1.0.tar.gz-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale 8223869 Nov 9 22:22 firefox-2.0.tar.gz-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale 120 Nov 10 02:33 .fonts.cache-1drwxrwxr-x 6 dale dale  4096 Nov 9 04:43 .fullcircle/drwxr-xr-x 4 dale dale  4096 Nov 5 00:09 .galeon/drwx------ 5 dale dale  4096 Nov 10 02:06 .gconf/drwx------ 2 dale dale  4096 Nov 10 02:20 .gconfd/drwxr-xr-x 2 dale dale  4096 Oct 13 23:05 .gimp-1.2/drwx------ 3 dale dale  4096 Aug 20 01:21 .gnome/drwxr-xr-x 6 dale dale  4096 Nov 10 02:06 .gnome2/drwx------ 2 dale dale  4096 Aug 20 06:49 .gnome2_private/-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale 119 Aug 12 19:00 .gtkrc-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale 123 Aug 12 19:00 .gtkrc-2.0-rw------- 1 dale dale 195 Nov 10 02:06 .ICEauthoritydrwxrwxr-x 8 root root  4096 Nov 7 03:54 j2re1.4.2_06/drwxrwxr-x 3 dale dale  4096 Nov 7 05:31 .java/drwxr-xr-x 4 dale dale  4096 Aug 12 19:00 .kde/-rw------- 1 dale dale 396 Aug 12 19:29 .kdercdrwx------ 7 dale dale  4096 Oct 12 05:20 .Mail/-rw-r--r-- 1 dale dale 229 Nov 7 01:13 .mailcapdrwxr-xr-x 3 dale dale  4096 Aug 12 19:00 .mcop/-rw------- 1 dale dale   31 Aug 30 05:05 .mcoprcdrwxr-xr-x 2 dale dale  4096 Aug 18 17:28 .MdkOnline/-rw-r--r-- 1 dale dale 230 Nov 7 01:13 .mime.typesdrwx------ 4 dale dale  4096 Nov 6 10:11 .mozilla/-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale 398144 Oct 13 10:39 Plum_Pudding_v2.1.zipdrwxrwxr-x 2 dale dale  4096 Nov 10 02:06 .qt/-rw------- 1 dale dale  1549 Nov 9 11:31 .recently-used-rw-r--r-- 1 dale dale  3729 Aug 12 18:48 .screenrcdrwx------ 3 dale dale  4096 Oct 21 03:50 .thumbnails/drwxr-xr-x 10 dale dale  4096 Nov 5 04:27 thunderbird/drwxrwxr-x 3 dale dale  4096 Nov 4 00:08 .thunderbird/drwx------ 4 dale dale  4096 Nov 10 02:18 tmp/srwxrwxr-x 1 dale dale  0 Nov 7 06:29 .totem.dale=-rw-rw-r-- 1 dale dale  4 Aug 12 19:00 .wmrc-rw------- 1 dale dale   54 Nov 10 02:06 .Xauthoritydrwxr-xr-x 2 dale dale  4096 Oct 31 09:05 .xine/-rw------- 1 dale dale  6180 Nov 10 02:33 .xsession-errors[root@localhost dale]# Quote
Bruno Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Well, I see the 2.0 . . but that must have been an error from Mozilla because it is no longer on the mirrors now ( I think they tried to pull a joke on you ) . . . . anyway let us proceed:In the preferences of Firefox there is a setting under "advanced" that is about warnings for updates: please uncheck both . . . . we don't want that feature ( for sure if it does not work correctly ! )Then the plugins: I have 3 commands for you, every time they are just ONE line ( remember ? ) . . please C & P # ln -s  /home/dale/j2re1.4.2_06/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so  /home/dale/firefox/plugins # ln -s  /usr/lib/flash-plugin/flashplayer.xpt  /home/dale/firefox/plugins/ # ln -s  /usr/lib/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so  /home/dale/firefox/plugins/ After that the plugins should work . . . . and if they do and the browser is OK we will have to do some cleaning of your /home again . . . so I will have additional commands for you :PB) Bruno Quote
longgone Posted November 10, 2004 Author Posted November 10, 2004 Bruno,,,Wellll .. plugins are back and appear to be working ... had to type them in since I could not get rid of the second "#" on the cmds ,, but went to one of the web pages and it loaded fine .. also entered into the address bar ..about:plugins .. and they were all listedso you don't want to try that 2.0 just to see what happens ?????????? Quote
Bruno Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 so you don't want to try that 2.0 just to see what happens ??????????   NO !! . . .Absolutely not . . who knows what it really is . . I don't trust that one bit, who knows the FTP site was hacked and some malicious file was dumped there: 2.0 just does not exist !So let us do the cleaning:rm  /home/dale/firefox-1.0.tar.gzrm  /home/dale/firefox-2.0.tar.gz ( I left of the # signs so you can copy and paste ) Bruno Quote
longgone Posted November 10, 2004 Author Posted November 10, 2004 ......I am making the guess that I was to enter yes for each of those resulting replys ... I shall delete 2.0 from the home directory ... tooo Quote
Bruno Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 If the commands did work the 2.0 will be gone already Dale :PB) Bruno Quote
