Hi DaleTry to delete all mozilla files in your /home . . and let it rebuild it again by restarting mozilla . . hope that will set things straight.And for frozen bubble . . try "swaret --install frozen-bubble" . . don't know if it is in the list,. but if it is . . :lol::blink: Bruno

Bruno,,, In Mndrk at the moment, but you really want me to delete something :o :o , this could lead to disaster, but I am willing to try. Is this going to be done as "root" using "gedit" or is there another road for this ..

No no Dale . . . only the user files and directories that you can delete as user . . . . do a:

$ ls -a /home/dale

and everything with the name Mozilla you see:

$ rm -rf .mozilla

( it probably is .mozilla a hidden file with a dot before the m )Don't worry we can always uninstall it and install it again if things go wrong :o:o Bruno

:o :o Okay, did what you posted, there was only one mozilla entry there, but, prior to reading your post I had made an entry as follows (as su)swaret --delete mozilla .... and I must assume that was good to go ... now I am unable to get swaret to fetch mozilla and reinstall it, so I am under the impression that I need another command other than what I had. :o :o

Some additional info ... during the boot up process, actually just at the end it has the KDE listed as 3.0 now instead of 3.2, Konqueor lists at 3.2.0 ... this KDE listing occured after I had be trying to get the sound up and running. But here is what I am getting in a consol .....root@Access-4-Free:/home/dale# swaret --get mozilla -aswaret 1.6.1Listing available Packages matching Keyword: mozilla...No available Packages found matching Keyword: mozilla!Packages are saved in: /var/swaret!Repository Packages are saved in: /var/swaret/repos/REPOSITORYNAME!root@Access-4-Free:/home/dale#

Hi DaleI think first "swaret --update" and then "swaret --install mozilla" will do the trick . . . . but you still will have to delete the .mozilla in your /home/daleB) BrunoPS: we will do KDE 3.2 and the sound after . .

Bruno,,, Okay, Mozilla was evicted out of the home and here is what I am told when I did the update and install commands ...root@Access-4-Free:/home/dale# swaret --updateswaret 1.6.1[ ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/sla...ackware-current ]### Fetching CHECKSUMS List File... DONE!root@Access-4-Free:/home/dale# swaret --install mozillaswaret 1.6.1=> Creating EXCLUDE List..... DONE!Listing available Packages matching Keyword: mozilla...No available Packages found matching Keyword: mozilla!root@Access-4-Free:/home/dale#I also have an un-related question that I am curious about,, when I did the $ ls -a /home/dale cmd the contents are in several different colors, basically a light grey, and purple, and one green, and two red, and and aqua one. Does that have some significance in the type of file(?) that they are.

Hi DaleOn your last question . . . the directories, links, picture files and a few others all have different colors . . . ;)Are you sure Mozilla is gone from your system ?? . . What happens if you type "mozilla" in a terminal ??Now if from the above there is no reaction: Here is what we will do. . change the /etc/swaret.conf back to "9.1" ( from "current" ) and do the same commands again: first "--update" and then "--install mozilla" :thumbsup: Bruno

Bruno,,,I had a feeling that I would have to do that,,,, oh well, it has been a learning experience.... Okay did that 9.1 is the version in /etc/swaret.conf right now.Mozilla 1.4 is back in the saddle, and I can almost bet the next step will be as <su> gedit /etc.swaret.conf and change the version from 9.1 to current and then swaret --upgrade .... swaret --update mozilla .... or something to that effect.....

Bingo !!! Jackpot !! . . . yep . . "current" and --update . . . and --upgrade mozilla . . . o:) B) . . . life is so simple :)After that we take the exclusion of Alsa out of the /etc/swaret.conf . . . "--delete asla" . . . set the swaret.conf to 9.1 again and "--install alsa" . . . that should fix the sound ( we need alsa from 9.1 ) then put "EXCLUDE=alsa" back in the swaret.conf again . . . . remember: http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/index.ph...4&t=5471&st=135 ??? and set the config to "current" again . . . Get the picture ?? :thumbsup: :teehee: :lol: Bruno

Bruno,Afternoon,,,,, well, Mozilla 1.4 is back, went back to "version=current" and did ... swaret --upgrade and then swaret --update mozilla. The upgrade part went fine, it fectched all it was supposed to, but the update portion gives me the response that the currently installed packages are up to date and it does not update Mozilla to 1.6. ?????, Yes I got the update message on swaret, it is downloaded and awaiting installation. What is the next step, try an get the Mozilla to 1.6 or the exclude or install/update swaret to the .3 version. ?????

??? usually tou first do "swaret --update" . . and after that "swaret --upgrade mozilla" . . . . . would there be the cause that you still have 1.4 ?? ( BTW does mozilla look better than before ? )

Yes first get the new Swaret version 1.6.1-3 . . . <_< !!:whistling: Bruno

Bruno,,Okay, tried that update first then upgrade, no difference still tells me that all packages are up to date for the keyword mozilla and no it still as ugly as it was. Guess that cause it still 1.4 :whistling: ,,, Did the upgradepkg to the .3 version for swaret, mostly. I need to know how to accomplish this:Executing install script for swaret-1.6.1-noarch-3...YOU MUST EDIT /etc/swaret.conf.new! (man swaret.conf)Rename it to /etc/swaret.conf and start using swaret.Package swaret-1.6.1-noarch-1 upgraded with new package ./swaret-1.6.1-noarch-3.tgz.I did do a gedit just to see if I could find where those entries go but no luck. I did notice though that I am back in Slackversion 9.1 and I was in current. Anyway, on to the next step/s .... lead on, oh wonderous instructor.

Hi DaleWell do the following commands

# rm /etc/swaret.conf# cp  /etc/swaret.conf.new  /etc/swaret.conf

And then change the "9.1" to "current" . . . . . and uncomment "NIC=lo" ( and did you have to comment "NIC=eth0" for dial-up ??? ):whistling: Bruno

Bruno,Okay, all done, did not have to uncomment the NIC interface entry but did the NIC lo , currently is version=current. I did notice that in this upgrade process it changed the EXCLUDE on me. I had done as you said and added in EXCLUDE=ALSA (alsa) but after the upgrade it was not there. Should I add that in or should I do swaret --update first

Bruno,,,So far, changed the slack version to 9.1, added the alsa to the exclude section, upgraded swaret to get everything straight there (reboot) changed the version to current then upgraded swaret again, then did a swaret --update in version=current .... after that ... just for the heck of it did upgrade mozilla (it did to) an it say 1.6 is instlled, have not checked it yet ,,, next was upgrade kde (did all except for the two that combined are a little over 31mb) and that is where I am at now.....

Great job Dale !! . . :DDoes that mean you have KDE 3.2 and mozilla is working/looking to your satisfaction ??Okay the sound . . . . :1). Well first we want an mp3 file somewhere to be able to do a few tests.2). I want to see the alsa installed . . . for this we have to temporary change the /etc/swaret.conf file and comment the line we did put in "EXCLUDE=alsa" . . . after commenting it you do:

# swaret --update# swaret --list alsa

The result has to look like this:

Listing all available Packages... alsa-driver-1.0.2c-i486-1 (1443 kB) [status: NOT INSTALLED (Installed: alsa-driver-0.9.6-i486-3)] alsa-lib-1.0.2-i486-1 (338 kB) [status: NOT INSTALLED (Installed: alsa-lib-0.9.6-i486-1)] alsa-oss-1.0.2-i486-1 (24 kB) [status: NOT INSTALLED (Installed: alsa-oss-0.9.6-i486-1)] alsa-utils-1.0.2-i486-1 (110 kB) [status: NOT INSTALLED (Installed: alsa-utils-0.9.6-i486-1)]
-->> Don't forget to un-comment the " EXCLUDE=alsa" again after this !!! <<--3). Type "alsamixer" in a terminal and see if the mixer comes up and the volumes are up ( 1, 2 and 6 )4) Type "aumix" and see to it that the volumes are up5) KDE Control Center --> Sound and Multimedia --> Soundsystem --> Tab "Hardware" --> set "Select audio device" to "Advanced Linux Sound System" 6) Try to play the mp3 in XMMS ( oss driver output plugin ) and report back :DB) Bruno

B) B) Bruno..in order ....1.) with this particulare upgrade (ver. 3) that KDE 3.2 is not there anymore so,, can do without ... as far as Mozilla goes .. is still is not what I like. At a later time I will need to know how to completely remove the mozilla that came with Slack since I have d/l'd Mozilla 1.6 from the Mozilla web site and right now it is in /home/dale awaiting installation.2.) how about in lieu of an mp3 .. just a plain ole audio cd, or was that sort of what you meant anyway. Since I do not have any mp3's nor an mp3 player.3.) by commenting/uncommenting .... I take it that to comment something at the beginning of the line the number/cross hatch (#) is inserted and it is removed to uncomment .. ?????? :D

Hi Dale1). :D :(2). I first want a normal soundfile and not test the sound from CD yet . . . you can rip one song from the CD in the konqueror filebrowser . . . . put the CD in the player, open your /home and in the sidebar click on the last icon ( probably a star ) . . you will see the CD-rom device . . click on it and you can choose to copy the song in "ogg" to your /home/dale3). Commenting is putting a # at the start of the line . . . uncommenting is taking the # away . . B) yes you are right !B) Bruno

Hi DaleLet us start at the end . . :

the other is devices
That is supposed the one that should have the CD player and rip possebillity . . . did you have a CD in the player ?
nothing comes up at all when I type .. aumix ..
Means aumix is not installed ;) . . . do a "swaret --install aumix" ( if it is not there in "current" switch back temporary to "9.1" ( don't forget to switch back after the install )Once Aumix is installed you will see that Alsamixer will work as well ;)Results on Alsa look good !!I will switch to Slackware and see if I can find a soundfile you can use to test XMMS that is already on your system B) :DB) Bruno

PART 2Here is a soundfile for testing:

# cp  /usr/share/sounds/phone.wav  /home/dale

This will put a copy of it in your /home . . that makes it easier ;) . . . I know it is a very short one but it will allow us to do the tests . . . B) Bruno
