Give me the URL where you downloaded that ISO of Mepis so I can download it too and have a look at the "fb" or "xres" cheatcodes and we will just install it again with the correct screen resolution. Also ( and first ) I would like to see ( while booted in Mepis ): # cat /boot/grub/menu.lst Maybe it just uses an append that forces it to this crazy low resolution . . . . Bruno
yes it was the 3.302 test 03 that I was installing OOPS I knew that there was something odd going on . . . . . . . LOL . . . . . Take your time . . because we might only get to the install tomorrow anyway ( see: http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/index.php?showtopic=13113 )Anyway the entry in the PCLos Lilo can stay the same as it was as long as you install grub in the partition ( hdb9 ) where you install Mepis . . . so that is making things easy :DB) Bruno

Bruno
ColinYou only need the one I posted the link for: the 3.3.1 . . . . ( because I have the same one just finished downloading and I want us both to have exactly the same one )Now, If you have it downloaded too, you boot it LIVE and press F3 at the first screen . . . there you can choose the resolution you want to boot it . . . set it on the correct resolution and let it boot . . . . . then install it . . . Simple . . . . Simply Mepis :DB) Bruno

burninbush
For When you surface BrunoSimply Mepis 3.3.1 IS on hdb9--->>>BUT--->>>AGAIN only the 800x600 screen<{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm gonna make a suggestion here; if you have a distro running that does have the screen size you like, why not just grab a copy of that X config file and paste it into your Mepis install? In each case, the file at issue will be in /etc/X11 directory, named either xorg.conf, or XF86Config-4. Either can substitute for the other, in 90% of cases. mepis# cd /etc/X11mepis# mv xorg.conf xorg.conf.savmepis# cp /mnt/hda6/etc/X11/xorg.conf . #where the good one is, note that periodAnd then do a ctrl-alt-backspace to force X to restart, and see what happens. Worst case, you won't get a usable screen at all [though this is highly unlikely, given the other distro's screen works OK with your hardware] -- and in that case, you delete the new xorg.conf and restore the old one. mepis# rm xorg.confmepis# mv xorg.conf.sav xorg.confmepis# startxThat's exactly what I'd do here as a first shot. If that wasn't suitable, then I'd run xorgconfig, knowing the answers about my monitor and vid card. Or you can try to edit your existing X config file. That's what I did here today with my install of the Suse 10-b4-64 release; for some odd reason, it came up with a vertical scan freq [80hz] that I have never seen before on this monitor. But by now, I know which part of xorg.conf needs to be fixed, it is the modeline associated with the screen rez that I want to run, at the color depth I want. So, edit to copy that from the good file, paste it over the line that made 80hz, restart X, and I'm in. Doesn't Mepis have a desktop icon 'Operating System Center' or something like? Believe there's an item in that to change screen rez -- been so long since I needed it that I can't remember. Hope some of that helps.
