zlim Posted July 23 Posted July 23 I did a double-take on this sentence in a newsletter from Jared Newman I got today. Southwest Airlines was not affected by the CrowdStrike meltdown because its systems run Windows 3.1! https://advisorator.com/members/2024/07/23/7-23-2024-use-a-better-browser/ Quote
Corrine Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Wow! After reading that, I did a quick search and found that according to Southwest Airlines Avoids Crowdstrike Issues - Thanks to Windows 3.1?, it wasn't just Southwest Airlines: Quote Yes, Windows 3.1 — an operating system that is 32 years old. Southwest, along with UPS and FedEx, haven't had any issues with the CrowdStrike outage. In responses to CNN, Delta, American, Spirit, Frontier, United, and Allegiant all said they were having issues, but Southwest told the outlet that its operations are going off without a hitch. Some are attributing that to Windows 3.1. Major portions of Southwest's systems are reportedly built on Windows 95 and Windows 3.1... Quote

abarbarian Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Tree taller than the Statue of Liberty discovered in the world's deepest canyon Quote Among its record-breaking attributes is a surprising inhabitant nestled into its rugged terrain: the tallest trees ever discovered in Asia. Indeed, the cypress, which soars 102 metres (335 feet) up into the sky, is so tall, it would tower over the 305-foot-tall Statue of Liberty if the two were placed side-by-side. Below is a full-length view of the impressive specimen: I decided to not post the tree picture here 1 Quote

US cruise company offering four-year escape during Trump presidency Quote A Florida-based cruise company is offering disgruntled US voters the chance to escape by travelling the world during Donald Trump's upcoming four years in office. Quote Mr Petterson said the company started working on the marketing campaign before the election and would have rolled it out regardless of who won. "It's not really a political campaign at all... it just happened that Trump won and there are more Democrats that are unhappy living in the US now than Republicans," he said. Mind you. sunrat Posted Wednesday at 11:24 AM Posted Wednesday at 11:24 AM You're Probably Wrong About Rainbows This blew my mind. Partly because I had to stretch my understanding of physics to get even half of what he is talking about, and partly because most of it was totally understandable and much more detailed and interesting than what I previously knew about rainbows. TL:DR We all know that rainbows are formed by diffraction of sunlight, but reflection inside the water droplets and the fact that different wavelengths of light travel at different speeds is the core.
