zlim Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 striker, you are observant!kanotix is up to 14% downloaded. It is steady at about 70KB/sec and since the time is a bit over two hours, I'm letting this one work.I will check the link and if this one gets slower, I'll try the other. Quote
kamicota Posted February 24, 2006 Author Posted February 24, 2006 Now Now Julia If you read a little further back in these posts Bruno SUGGESTED another PCLOs install so there Colin Quote
teacher Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Now Now Julia If you read a little further back in these posts Bruno SUGGESTED another PCLOs install so there Colin Bruno said another install after checking out the hardware! In that case I am 100% positive it is a hardware problem . . . . and no matter how we keep fixing the install, this problem will keep damaging the install over and over again. It's a lost case.My advise: Shut down the laptop . . wait for your friend to fix it . . . and when it is fixed re-install a fresh PCLos on it. BrunoJust a reminder Colin. Notice it says when it is fixed reinstallDon't get the order confused. Quote

Bruno Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Hi ColinStriker did send me some info with a hack we maybe can apply for the overheating problem. But I need to study it first before we start . . . and I am not sure I have enough time today to do it . . . . so maybe tomorrow :DAnyway, maybe you can show me: "cat /proc/acpi/fan/FAN1/state" to start with ? Bruno Quote
teacher Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 ColinI don't think your battery ever gets down to 10%! Maybe your laptop does but I doubt you do. Students have gone their way and safely home. I saw five students today of which only three were my students. They all got individual attention today. Since alternative schools are for students with one type of problem or another my largest class is 7 students but it could be three different classes during the same class period. I do more "tutoring" than "teaching". Quote
kamicota Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 OOPS Bruno--->>>[kamicota@localhost ~]$ cat /proc/acpi/fan/FAN1/statestatus: off[kamicota@localhost ~]$And Julia I DO SEEM to have been on a HIGH CHARGE for a while eh Yes Special needs children oft do bring a lot of satisfaction and you may have to explain the difference between "tutoring" and teaching" I think my HIGH is affecting my Low UNDERSTANDING Cheers for YearsColin Quote
teacher Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 It's simple Colin. Teaching is doing the same thing with a group of students. Tutoring is working one-on-one with each student probably doing something different. Glad you are on a high charge. Quote
kamicota Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 (edited) Thank you JuliaNow I am as WISE as youYeah I might be Charged up but the FAN is OFF - WONDER WHY Cheers for Years Colin Edited February 26, 2006 by kamicota Quote
striker Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Hang on Colin, there might be a solution for the 'fan is off' .You'll have to wait until Bruno's around again. He's studying on the info from the link I send him, so give him some time. Quote
kamicota Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 (edited) Boy StrikerI HOPE you are right I checked the bottom of the laptop and it seems like the whole case needs taking apart to get to the physical fan.And LIKE READING that is NOT my ForteAnd the Sound Server Error is STILL there - PERSISTANT LITTLE TYKE ISN'T IT Cheers for yearsColin Edited February 26, 2006 by kamicota Quote
striker Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Boy StrikerI HOPE you are rightI checked the bottom of the laptop and it seems like the whole case needs taking apart to get to the physical fan.I don't think you need to take it apart, the solution to what I'm thinkin' of is a software solution regarding acpi.Just wait for Bruno and don't do anything with it until Bruno tells you to.Just leave it switched off until Bruno arrives, that might be in 1-1,5 hrs. Bruno Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Hi ColinSorry I could not get back at you earlier . . . . just had a very busy program yesterday :)Okay let us not waste more time and try to tweak this laptop ! This was your last info: [kamicota@localhost ~]$ cat /proc/acpi/fan/FAN1/statestatus: offNow I would like you to give the following command: $ su<password># echo "force_on:1" > /proc/acpi/fan/FAN1/state The command itself will show nothing, but when after the command you again do: $ cat /proc/acpi/fan/FAN1/state The answer should be different from the one you posted before. kamicota Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 Bruno I HOPE this is a [kamicota@localhost ~]$ suPassword:[root@localhost kamicota]# echo "force_on:1" > /proc/acpi/fan/FAN1/state[root@localhost kamicota]# cat /proc/acpi/fan/FAN1/statestatus: on[root@localhost kamicota]#Colin Quote
