Ok. See I found some old memory cards that say Compaq (on two of them) and PC-100 on another, and like I need some more memory on my home computer. The PC-100 is really cool cause its red. I used one of the Compaq boards to practice soldering on for a robot I'm building, and then the thought occurred to me, why not put them in my computer. Do you think it would be a good idea, not the solder-practice one (!?) but maybe the other two? Did I mention that one of them is red? If I put them in, where would they go?

beeTee, Teacher's suggestion is good, but since he's already decided it's a messaging service, just go along with it. Tell him you have an answering machine for your email. He writes to that address and the machine records the email so you can read it later. This worked on my 80 year old mom. ;) BoardFlak,

you're saying people actually read the things here?
If your talking about the bio's; yes, absolutely. Many of us check them out before posting, to see where a member is from, how old/young they are, if their ICQ number would be a good lottery number, just generally to learn more about them. If on the other hand you're referring to this thread, at last count 5792 people have read it. Doubt they understood any more than the rest of us, but at least they tried.Stryder, still having problems with that neighbor, eh? ;) That sounds like a great working title to me, but be prepared for your editor to change it before publication. And if they suggest Ann Rule as a ghost writer, start getting worried.HumbleOpinion, are you in your own? ;) Boy, these hardware questions are, well, hard. Red is a nice color, so I'd go with the red ones, No one wants compaq'ted memory. Look for two slots inside your computer that are about the same size as the sticks you have. Try to gently insert the memory into these slots, one stick per slot if there are two empty ones...but if you only have one empty slot, put them both in that one. If they resist, use a hammer or borrow Stryder's shovel, if he's not using it to edify his neighbor. If you have no empty slots, use your Homeland Defense Kit duct tape to mount them to the inside of the top of your computer box. This will prevent "low memory" problems. The computer will sense them up there, and while it may not be able to access them for normal use, it can still use them for long-term memory purposes. BTW, your avatar is bringing on some rad flashbacks. Wowy-zowy! ;)

So my question is this, exactly when does beating him with a shovel and burying the guy in the backyard become ok?
Any time would be OK as long as no one is looking!

I agree. Timing is everything. About 3 a.m. on a Sunday morning on a holiday weekend should be good.

Dig a big hole in his backyard. Then invite out at 3am to inspect this "meteor hole" and then apply liberally the shovel.

I think that is called "Edit post" but then again I don't know if it counts as Crow. Wait a minute, this is not the one on naming three groups.....

I remember "Edit Posts"...had a bluesy sort of Southern sound. Only did one album, I think..."Shovelin Blues"?

BTW, my neighbor just came over to borrow my shovel, is digging a hole in my back yard & invited me to watch meteors at 3 AM. Which meteor shower is going on right now?

You are in luck! There is one going on! It's the eta Aquarid meteor shower going on through May 12 which is a stream of dusty debris from Halley's Comet that we are passing through.According to SpaceWeather.com, the best time to watch is just before local dawn on Tuesday, May 6th, when the shower is expected to peak. Sky watchers in the southern hemisphere, where the shower will be most intense, could see more than 30 meteors per hour. The timing is close, but depending on where you live, I'd still be concerned about that shovel though

Jeber: Yeah, I was referring to the profiles. I have been on other boards where no one read them, because I'd make a comment about something on my profile, and no one would know what I meant.HumbleOpinion: I'd really think that memory chip that you've been using for solder practice is the one to use. All those extra connections you've created ought to speed it up quite a bit. Of course, it may smoke a little, but just get a bigger fan for better air flow and you're all set. :)

kindof off topic(is it possible to be off topic in this thread? :( )ok.so i go to the concert. :( now, they didn't tell me ppl were wearing black suits, ties, and the ladies in long dresses. so.i shows up in blue jeans & a bandana. :) now they start playing really good.and, of course, i start whooping, cheering, clapping, etc. :) um, for a few seconds... seems no one else was sharing my enthusiasm.well it seemed like they were done.so i jump up and whistle real loud like and flick my bic. :( again, it seems no one was sharing my enthousiasm there either.anyway, they 'escort' me out, muttering something about 'uncouth' 'uncivalized' and 'fire hazard' :) what's a soul to do? :)

Actually, I think the last line of your sig says it all. Find out for sure if it's one of those fancy suit affairs...then show up in your jeans and bandana. If you know what kind of concert it is beforehand, then you're just making a statement about art and music being accessible to everyone, not just the owners of fancy clothes, rather than just being a clod (their likely opinion, not mine) who was unprepared and didn't know how to dress.

ya' see my avatar? well, that's how i usually dress.the blue jeans are underneath (in case the wind picks up... i'm not scotch, ya know.)saying 'these are not the droids you seek' before reaching security at the gate really doesn't seem to help much either. B)

You know that you need to take a long, hard look at where your life is going when...You find yourself at a concert where everyone is dressed up.You learn that you have just received the "team player" award at work. You realize that your car radio is tuned to "all news, all the time", all the time. When you speak, people listen. The neighbors are all jealous of your lawn. When you give really bad advise, no one realizes that you are joking?Any more out there? ;)

you own a cell phone.you leave home, get two blocks away, and turn around to get it.(why do we need to be that connected??)

Hey, waitaminnit, I own a cell phone, but I can plead mitigating circumstances. I was "instructed" to get one for my job, and have it with me at all times. At least they're also paying the phone bill. Now, anyone not in that circumstance who is that obsessed about their phone...yeah, I'd agree. Here's one: You see that new TV ad with the monks where they hear "you've got mail" and all bolt for their computers, and you can TOTALLY relate to it.Oh, and while I'm at it, Temmu: while the Force has a powerful effect on the weak-minded, it is still necessary for them to have a mind. That may be where you're having problems.

You let some of these people have a microwave, and It's Showtime!
Like the nightwatchman at a radio station, who on chilly nights used to take to a deck chair in front of the microwave transmitter to keep warm? That is, until one cold Christmas eve, when the signal was doubled to cater for increased capacity, and beside the deck chair was found a six-pack of beer, one half empty ... :D

Welcome to our little world of weirdness, stretchr. Fact is, when I was in the Army in the 70's, and microwave antennas were still fairly new, they used to encourage safety by telling us the horror story of the soldier in Germany who thought he'd found a nice warm place to get out of the weather. Fried him from the inside out. I imagine it was apocryphal, but it's possibly true.

...  and buy the most powerful shop vac there.  Don't worry about bags.  You'll never use the suction function.  Hook the hose up to the outflow hole and dust off that screen.  Have a friend either,  1) hold the computer down while you clean it, or 2) "spot" the computer...follow it's flight so you both can recover the computer once it lands.  The shop vac also comes in handy for solving overheating problems for overclockers.
Ok, got the vac .... but I plugged it in the wrong hole!! Maybe I shoulda used the shovel ... :D Anyway, now I have a compaq't, not a Dell (at least not recognizable as one). What should I do? Soak it in water overnight like you do with lentils??

No, no...you'll want to remove the hose from the current location and put it into the other hole. Put the other end in a large bag. This will cause the vac to spit out the computer parts it earlier sucked up. Then put the rest of the computer in the bag and shake it. The computer's memory will get the pieces back together. Give that a shot and post back with your results.
