V.T. Eric Layton Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 Those are shortcut panel icons for apps that don't exist (or the shortcut is pointing to the wrong location for the executable). You should be able to edit the shortcut or remove them using the panel options. That looks like KDE. I'm a bit rusty on exactly how to do that with that desktop environment. Quote
réjean Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) The widgets are unlock so in theory I should be able to drag them out or right-click on them and choose to remove or delete them but it doesn't work. I'll go to the PCLinuxOS forum and see if someone can help. Thanks for trying Eric. P.S. I had to right-click on the Desktop and choose 'Unlock Widgets' which put another icon at the very far right of the panel (in the shape of a cashew) then I clicked on it and after that I could right-click on the 2 icons I wanted out and choose 'Remove icon from the panel'. V.T. Eric Layton Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 You must have a lot of eyes to watch all those monitors... 1 Quote
saturnian Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Wow, securitybreach, I REALLY like that set-up! 1 Quote
V.T. Eric Layton Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 And by the way... Don't you have any lighting in that room or is all that computer equipment using all the available power. 2 Quote
securitybreach Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Thanks everyone!! Also, I have two lamps in my room so it is brighter than my phone's camera shows... Quote
V.T. Eric Layton Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 Sure it is. You probably have to keep low-lighting in effect so that it doesn't hurt all your eyes. Hard to find sunglasses for that many. 1 Quote
V.T. Eric Layton Posted May 26, 2014 Author Posted May 26, 2014 This week's wallpaper in Slackware... Can you guess what I'm listening to at 110 decibels right about now? 1 Quote
ichase Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Not sure our moods effect the background we use or the background effects our moods? Still tinkering around with FrankenstIAN all though, I am not going to tackle the "third" monitor until I get a different set up and figure out how to incorporate it using the on board intel HD video. Not sure if I can get it to play with Nvidia and really don't feel like messing with it. Plus I would rather get a mount so that my work space is not being taken up by monitors. Here is the dirty version of FrankenstIAN showing info and such: And the clean version. Went with something more sereal today. Trying to get my mood to a better place 2 Quote
securitybreach Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Good luck on using nvidia plus the intel onboard as I do not think it is possible at all. You have to use one of the other, not both. Ok it looks like it may be possible but your bios would have to allow it and I haven't had one that did. Quote
ichase Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 I still have an HDMI port open on the Nvidia Graphics card in which I have an HDMI to DVI cable but I am not sure you can use both DVI and HDMI at the same time. If I CAN, that would be wonderful as I would only be using Nvidia and not trying to source two completely different vendors of graphics into one party It's going to be a while until I decide to tackle that one. The two 19" screens are just fine for now. I still want to get a mount similar to what you are using so the monitors are not sitting on my work bench. They kinda take up A LOT of room Plus, for some reason or another, my KVM switch does not want to work with both the server and FrankenstIAN. Need to figure that one out as well as sometimes I need to switch over to the server but I can secure shell into the server to do just about anything I need. So once again, NOT a big deal. Quote
securitybreach Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Why not use synergy instead of the kvm? It works the same way (share mouse/keyboard) but uses server/client instead of a physical port. I have been using it for a couple of years and it works beautifully. Instead of using a keyboard shortcut to change over, you simply drag your mouse over to the other computer. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/synergy Quote
tforsman Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 It's time to show my top modern desktop again, nothing really new here though..... This is something called Gnome, yeah right you might say....Well it's true !!!! (irony) Ages ago, Gnome looked like this. And I just love it..... I know, all of you guys knows what this is, just rare that someone actually uses it today. 2 Quote
abarbarian Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Gnome 2! I miss it. You could always try out Mate. Quote
saturnian Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I haven't missed GNOME 2 at all (so I haven't even tried MATE), but it sure is nice to see the screenshot of that old, familiar desktop! Looking at it, I can completely understand why so many people became so comfortable with it. Which distro is that screenshot taken from? For a glance at my Unity desktop in Ubuntu 14.04: 1 Quote
tforsman Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Which distro is that screenshot taken from? That distro is Foresight Linux, gnome desktop Quote
Guest LilBambi Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 You have KDE and xfce available too in Foresight Linux, right, Tomas? Quote
V.T. Eric Layton Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 You could always try out Mate. Yeah. Mate's good. I set my brother's Linux Mint up with that because he was already familiar with Gnome 2 from Ubuntu. You have KDE and xfce available too in Foresight Linux, right, Tomas? Xfce for sure because that's what I run when I have Foresight installed. Quote
Guest LilBambi Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Nice that he has xfce, but also hope for KDE as well as that's my main Desktop Environment for computers that can handle it. Quote
tforsman Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 You have KDE and xfce available too in Foresight Linux, right, Tomas? Only an old KDE, we had a few users that i learned how to build packages and they wanted to update kde packages. but seems they love to learn how to make packages and then just vanish So we currently supporting gnome, xfce and lxde Quote
Guest LilBambi Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Drat... the new KDE is quite nice. At least you have xfce. Quote
