longgone
New question,, same distro ..... Slackware tip #2 ... adding reboot/pwr off buttons ... followed the destructions .. except used "mcedit" instead of "vi" .... (vi wouldn't work for me when I tried it to get X working) ... made the entry just like the given example (substituted "dale" for "bruno") ... but it does not work ..(rebooted and checked the "sudo" file and the entry is still there so it is good .... ??? :"> ........ DISREGARD this post .. a case of foot in mouth .. prior to engaging brain here ...... Edited December 4, 2005 by longgone

longgone
.......Here I am again .. sort of a revival here .. since I was not having great success with updates here I went ahead and did a fresh installation .... (sort of) ... all went well except for one glich... after the first installation was done ...... click on K (menu icon) >logout >shutoff computer (does its shut down procedure) and it would power off ... now after the reinstall .. it does not power off ... it stops ar thr "power off" indication and then I manually shut it down .... any ideas what changed .... also after the reinstall, some changes were noted .. I did not need to "uncomment" the "NIC ppp0" line, connects right up now, changed the version line in swaret to "current" and ended up with 125-175mb of updates to install and lastly ... the last install was showing me all the updates were for Slack 10.0 ... this time it was 10.1 ,, better by far ..... I would say that it is fairly up to date .....
Bruno
Hi DaleAbout the "power-off" . . . the solution is here: http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/index.ph...14&t=503&st=144Then the swaret and "current" . . . . you know, "current"is the development version and will also install "unstable" packages . . . you better change the /etc/swaret.conf to reflect the version you are running . . . read here: http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/index.ph...14&t=503&st=241 Bruno
longgone
pwr off .. now powers off ..... changed the version from current to 10.2 (must now check swaret) another question ... during the installation .. it made mention of my XP partition .. I entered this as to the "path" ????? /ntfs/home/dale ... now how do I get to it if I want to ... ???
