kamicota Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 StrikerWE got all but 3 of the packages OpenOffice 131MB and openoffice other two packages would not complete from belenetBUT WE are RUNNING SmoothlyDon't know if it UPGRADED to PCLinuxOS 2007 Final though HOW do I check this???Cheers for yearsColin Quote
striker Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 LOL ... I think if you got all the packages, rebooted and nothing went awry ( ???) you'll have it.BTW : change the repos to nluug Colin, I had the same trouble with the belnet repos this afternoon. Up above in this thread is a screen shot of how I set it up (post 11). @Tommy : yep, I'm afraid I also have encountered a few small issues. For ex. :The mouse acceleration speed won't take the value you set it on.The distro makes all partitions visible it can find : outcomment them in /etc/fstab and it should be fixed... wrong !!! They're still there after a reboot. Sometimes the kMix applet is opened after a fresh boot. I could fix it by quiting it, reboot and after that reopen it. Next reboot all was OK. Nevertheless, I have seen this quirk a couple of times now.Akregator : fully tweaked and all set: after a reboot it doesn't show up, and it gets worse ... all feeds are gone ... muuuuhaaaaaahaa, It doesn't remember a couple of settings, like the network set up I did after the install; Had to do some uncommon things to get it 'stick' the settings.Positives:It recognized my Audigy 4 and kMix works with it; OTOH gnome-alsamixer which should work (it does so in other repos) decided to give me a 'get lost' and acts unstable. So penguins and penguinettes, I'm afraid this final is not so high end as we would like it to be. kamicota Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Strikerused that nluug URL and ALL packages FAILEDCheers for yearsColin Quote
striker Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Mmm, have you read this Clin :http://www.pclinuxos.com/index.php?option=...p;topic=22786.0It also was mentioned a few times here too when I think about it. Does it still work OK ? Then leave it as is Colin, you're risking to much if you ask me. That or you either have to take the plunge and install PClos 2007 and see were it gets you, hoping some updates in the future will solve some of your troubles . I would try the live CD once again and if it doesn't work the way you want, then don't do anything : just keep your updated TR4 for now. Quote
kamicota Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Yep StrilkerNow you mention it I REMEMBER that postWhat these Updates did (this time from ibiblio) was give me a new lilo login screen NOT the text one I had had and for this post I logged in to the 2.18.8 5tex Kernel and it appears OKSo After all this I just do NOT know if I am in the Final or NOT Cheers for yearsColin Quote
striker Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 $ uname -r2.6.18.8.tex5 gave me this, so you do have the final Colin. And the new login screen, is it the black one with the new pclinuxos 2007 logo and below tht the blue balls while starting KDE ? If so, that's it : 2007. Fresh from the developers ! ;)BTW:I just tested nluug, there's nothing wrong with it; I just got some extra packages downloaded and installed. Quote
kamicota Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Yep StrikerThat's exactly what I get get with uname -rSo Guess somewhere along the Line Someone was watching over me to upgrade from TR4 to Finale Cheers for yearsColin Quote
striker Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Yes, amazing Colin ! I just hope it'll work OK tomorrow... we'll see ! Quote

kamicota Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 (edited) Guess WE BE--->>> Because Downloaded 2007 Final from new site burned livecd and it works on ALL three computersIt did NOT even find the BCM4318 Wireless on HP Lappy though so ALL is NOT Hunky Dory yetEven So HP Lappy will probably be the first to try it on sn install as the TR4 was never tweaked or honed in to anything just the bare install Cheers for YearsColin Edited May 22, 2007 by kamicota Quote

ozgeek Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Well, the release version is giving me problems that the Test release 4 didn't - namely, I can't shut down. I have to reboot into mandriva and then shut down. Strange....... Quote
striker Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 I hear you Jan, in my opinion it's a problem release. Quote
BillD Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 I hear you Jan, in my opinion it's a problem release.Well, my fresh install from scratch on two machines went fine, but oddly, there is a problem with Thunderbird that I did not have with TR4; when I go to get mail, it tells me to wait; it is processing stuff . . . ? Then, in a few seconds, it starts working.I really figured the final would be better than TR4, but I'm not so sure.Bill Quote
Bruno Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 There never will be a "Perfect Release" . . . and always there are going to be bugfixes needed after the "final release"We do know Tex is a perfectionist, and that is why it took so long for the 2007 to come . . . . . But, as we all know: also perfectionists should not be expected to make an OS ( a very complex and elaborate OS ) that is without bugs.I am sure that in a week from now there will be 20-something updates that will fix the most heavy bugs . . . and a few weeks later there will be more bugfixes that will make PCL2007 the perfect distro :DB) Bruno Quote

I won't get my hopes up though. I have to reboot into mandriva and then shut down. Strange.......Hi Jan . . . I may have the solution to this . . . . . there is someone ( do not remember who ) that had the same problem with Mandriva and we solved it by removing "acpi=ht" from the append in the Grub menu.lst ( can be done in lilo.conf too )So please compare the relevant sections in the lilo.conf ( or menu.lst ) of both PCLos and Mandriva . . . . or post them on the forum so we can have a look ;) Bruno Quote
rpiz Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Bruno;Welcome back! Yes indeed I was the individual that struggled with the 'grub'entry, and it wasn't until I removed 'acpi=ht' that I was able to get Mandrivato settle down and function properly. You gave me a items to try and removein '..grub/menu.lst' and it wasn't until I removed 'acpi=ht' that all was well. Quote
Bruno Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Ahaaaa . . it was you Rpiz ? . . . Thanks for refreshing my memory ! . . . Bruno Quote
