Hallo Stricker ,I did a search for libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0.10.9-1mdv2007.0, starting in the root directory using the file finder tool. - it didn't find it. Maybe this is the problem I've been having - but then why wasn't it installed as a dependancy? Is there another way of finding files - other than going into every directory & manualy inspecting? The only thing it came up with was openoffice.org-l10n-en_GB . Notably these two were missing from the list :-openoffice.org-2.0.4-2.1mdv2007.0.i586 openoffice.org-gnome-2.0.4-2.1mdv2007.0.i586 I used the MCC to download & install openoffice.org-l10n-en_GB, it came up with three dependancies "To satisfy dependencies, the following 3 packages are going to be installed:openoffice.org-l10n-en_GB-2.0.4-2.1mdv2007.0.i586perl-Mail-SpamAssassin-3.1.8-0.1mdv2007.0.x86_64spamassassin-3.1.8-0.1mdv2007.0.x86_64"Then the message was that the list of updates was empty Does this mean that everything is done that we were trying to do? OOO seems to be working fine, has quite a few more fonts and the icons have changed a little. Time to forget about those pesky plug-ins Now all I have to do is to get the OOO writer thesaurus to work. I've got Australian English ticked in the languages option, and so is the thesaurus (tools, options, language settings, languages & writing aids). The spell check seems to work correctley (apart from not picking up a non- capitalised i), but the thesaurus is greyed out. Here is what you can do:First check with the command "# ifconfig eth0" what IP address ( inet addr )you currently get from the router. Also note down the "Mask" Then go in the MCC --> Internet & Networking and first "Delete a network interface" . . . next choose the button "Set up a new network interface (LAN, ISDN, ADSL, ...)" and set up the connection ( when using a router = LAN !! ) using a static IP address you will need: 1). The IP address you found with # ifconfig eth02). The netmask ( the "Mask" you found with # ifconfig eth0 )3). (Eth0 is already set up using a static IP address using another provider.)The network DID NOT want to work with static settings It reported that all was well, but would not connect to anything. When I first trid to set up the network with static settings and put in the IP address only all the other boxes filled automatically, however the gateway was a different number. I forced the gateway to be as previously and tried the system. It appeared to be correct, indicated that the network was up, but would not connect. Next I deleted that network & set up a static network allowing the automaticaly selected numbers to remain. Again same story - looked OK, told me network was up, but wouldn't connect. I deleted that network & this time set up a network with DHCP. This time it told me it was working and connected. Then I went into a terminal SU to root to change the /etc/hosts file and it couldn't connect to the Xserver when I tried to use konqueror : This is what appeared :-[roger@grandpa ~]$ suPassword:[root@grandpa roger]# konqkonqueror konquest[root@grandpa roger]# konquerorXlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by serverXlib: No protocol specifiedkonqueror: cannot connect to X server :0.0[root@grandpa roger]#I tried shutting the system down & turning off the power for a few moments before rebooting and tried again- sadly same story :'( How do I reconnect with the X server from a terminal so that I can edit files as root?Looking forward to some insight here Grogerf Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I wonder what went wrong, but in any case the default values the wizard proposes are not correct, you have to change them to the correct values. Maybe try again ?
