burninbush
I also seriously dislike the latest iterations of Firefox. In the event you're interested in trying it, there is a Linux version of Pale Moon: http://www.palemoon.....shtml#. There is even a dedicated Pale Moon for Linux forum. Right, already up to speed on that program. Much prefer the old look.

Capt.Crow
I have to be real careful now . Everything was different on boot-up today . So no surprise if I drop out with big problems. First I was asked to boot from one of the rom drives or the net card . Then the good old grub kicked in after pressing F4. Phew! I've been waiting 6mths for the Deb dead tree manual .. Still sold out .

Corrine
Yes, it is Update Tuesday and with it comes updates to Adobe Flash Player and AIR. Users of the Adobe Flash Player desktop runtime for Windows and Macintosh should update to Adobe Flash Player 18.0.0.160. The current version of Adobe AIR is 18.0.0.144. (The latest versions for Linux, Android and Flash Player ESR are included in my blog post.) An interesting update to the latest version of Flash Player is the Improved Flash Player Install Process, documented in the Release Notes, Flash Player® 18 AIR® 18: "With Flash Player 18, in the vast majority of cases, the installer will no longer display a dialog to shut down the currently running browsers or applications that are using Flash Player! Once the installation is completed, you will be notified that the browser may need to be restarted to use the newly installed version. This requirement depends on your browser’s ability to see the new version. Either way, Flash will continue to work and you can easily force the new version to appear by simply restarting your browser when it’s convenient for you." Corrine
Last week Adobe released another out-of-band critical security update for Flash Player -- Version 18.0.0.203 of Adobe Flash Player for Windows and Macintosh and Version 18.0.0.180 of Adobe AIR. Version information for Linux and the Extended Release is available below. It is strongly advised that you update Flash Player if you haven't done so already. mac
Thanks Corrine. My main browser is Chrome 64bit, (gave up on getting IE10 to work properly), and Adobe does not have a 64bit Shockwave Player available... However, I've not seen an error message on Chrome that a webpage wouldn't work because of the lack of shockwave. Chrome automagically updates Adobe Flash by itself. mac
Hmmm. I checked the version of Flash using Control Panel in WIN7, and it was still showing the old version. Went to Chrome settings and checked the "Update" button, and Chrome downloaded and installed the newest Chrome version 46.0.2490.71 m (64-bit). After Chrome rebooted, again checked Flash in Control Panel, and it still showed the old version. Went to the Flash download page using IE10 and downloaded the version shown above. Installed it and now Flash shows the newest version in Control Panel. I thought that Chrome used their own version of Flash, like IE11 does, and should have automagically installed the newest version when Chrome updates? zlim
The Control panel will show the version of flash in IE. (Mine says at the bottom when I open Flash Player: The settings on this page are not applicable to Google Chrome or Chromium based browsers PPAPI). I have to do two flash updates each time in Windows 7: one for IE and one for Firefox and Palemoon.

zlim
That warning isn't new, at least to me. I have an XP PC here that I acquired from a friend. He had RealPlayer installed. I got the PC in April 2009. Every time I update flash, I get a warning about Real Player. I haven't updated flash since I pulled the PC off the network in 2014 so I don't remember what the exact warning was.
