I switched to Android

Maybe, maybe not. With the way all OSes including Linux and Android and other mobile OSes are being attacked; I will have one on any OSes that allow it. And pray that iOS will soon allow one as well.

The problem is not necessarily directly through the apps, but what can be put on the device through searching, surfing and clicking on links in email like on any OS.

There was at least one instance of a malicious app being able to detect that it was running in an emulator, so it played possum. Once it was deployed to actual devices, it reared its ugly head.

A/V may be the prudent move, but both the Google Play stor and the Apple App Store have had very low instances of malicious apps getting through.

Is it worth it to root? I know you're a big fan, securitybreach! But what are the practical uses for it?

I would be very frustrated with not being able to do some pretty normal computer type things that can't be done on Android if it is not 'rooted'.

Well I know about all of those.... I just figured you had a specific reason.

Also, you mentioned Gemini but task managers are a huge no no on Android and will lead to slower performance...

You can't Adblock on iOS, rooted or not. At least you get the option with Android. Although I don't find a need to block ads on mobile (though I block ads on my computer), as I like to support free apps. I guess it's somewhat hypocritical to not do the same for websites.

Well I figure if you never click on any of the ads, why should you have to see them? The developer's doesn't make any money unless you click on the links...

That's not all Gemini does.

But certainly good to reiterate that it's not wise to use the task killers.

However, I have found that there are times when I need to kill some stuff off on my tablet with little memory.

Well you can close apps by swiping them away but yeah.

Not always. Sometimes I even have to restart the tablet to get them to go away.

Odd, I have never had to do that in a really long time, Some applications require you click settings and quit so it could be that,.

Well, this is not the Nexus 7. This is a very nice tablet and I like it a lot -- great gift. But I haven't tried to get it past the rooted ICS that it came with.

Plays our home videos from USB very well in vlc player.
