Although I'm in Oklahoma now I still have broadband connection and can still mail any OS that anyone wants. Just PM me and tell me what you want(this includes any and all systems except copyright protected) Your donations to the respective system; I'm sure would be appreciated, not to me but the developer.mike180

I'm a little slow in posting this but we did add you to the list Mike. Glad to have you on board. We still have more folks on the list willing to adopt those on dial up.

No problem, I remember you sending me a very kind pm thanking me the same day I signed up. =)Just pm me or email me when my services are needed. I just burned my first ISO via shell (ooooh) last night (Knoppix) . :D Also, I have been collecting distros (got about 9 different kinds already downloaded) so I can adopt 2 folks if the tables turn and there are more adoptees then adopters. :o Take care,Mike

Great.I think that is a sign you are hooked. Nine distros? Quint, watch out. You just might have company. :o

I loved the concept of adopt - a - dialupuser since Teacher first posted it, but I've managed to d/l several distros (including3CD Mdk 9.1) on dialup, using Kget in Mandrake or FlashGet in Windoze and lots of patience. That's 3-4 nights per CD. However Kget failed me and couldn't resume Knoppix 3.3. and lost 300Mb. So here I am!I would love to update my Mandrake to v9.2 when it's released. (9.1 was the distro that started/fuelled this new obsession)So if some kind soul could help, I'd be most grateful. I live in Australia, if anyone is "local" :D :D Adopted!! adoptionX.gif

SunratI will add you to our list. We have several that are willing to do an internation adoption - mostly ones like you that are off by themselves. We will get you signed up. Let me contact the person on my list closest to you and see what I can set up. Since I won't be home for another nine hours to consult my list, it will take until tomorrow for you before I can contact the person and see if they are willing to adopt you. Glad you have been persistent enough to download the various distros. I believe our countries so far include one in South America, the US, Canada, Great Britain, Netherlands, and Australia for those in the Adopt a Dial Up User program. :D

I'm on dial-up, a Redhat user, and would love to be adopted by any willing person. (I'm also considering switching to SuSE, so I suppose I *am* a bit open to anything...either one--I think. :))What a great idea! I owe my best Linux thanks to all the people who make this possible. :) Adopted!! adoptionX.gif

GreatWe have you on the list.

:P One of the best parts of a newer distro is the way everything is still in it's rightful place, unlike Windows where you have to waste hours trying to find out where they hid something that was easily found last time.

B) Bruno, Teacher::: One small question why does it have to be a copy from a d/l and not from an outright purchase as in my case with the ones that are currently in the mail to me now. I would think that would surely take care of the stable release portion. But if there are legal issues involved I would understand that real well.
Posted

Hi longgoneNo it is not the legal issues . . . but at the time this thread was made we were all waiting eagerly on Mandrake 9.2 . . . CD services run way behind on new releases and RC´s are not available at all . . . . . . Because we´re an impatient bunch of Linuxers we all want the latest version the day it shows on the mirrors ( or even, as with Mandrake, weeks before it´s officially released ).We broadband users have the finger on the download button, the minute it shows up . . . . . . and we wanted to give the dialup users some of the exitement we have being the first to have it. :DB) Bruno

B) Bruno,,, Ahhh ... okay now I see (say the blind Linux student) since I have several distros now an 3 more in snail mail. I am somewhat partial to getting them from the one of the service sites or the mfgr direct. Have been DSL now dial up but the phone lines where I am at are well over 30 years old and did experience broken connections on both so that why I spend more in cash than I will in time.
