Okay looks good . . now the next file . . . .NOTE: the file you posted did not seem complete so I am using the copy on my system as reference. So have a doublecheck yourself too.First the backup:

# cp /etc/services /etc/services-BACKUP

Then the changes:

## Network services, Internet style## Note that it is presently the policy of IANA to assign a single well-known# port number for both TCP and UDP; hence, most entries here have two entries# even if the protocol doesn't support UDP operations.## The latest IANA port assignments can be gotten from## http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers## The Well Known Ports are those from 0 through 1023.# The Registered Ports are those from 1024 through 49151# The Dynamic and/or Private Ports are those from 49152 through 65535## Kerberos services are for Kerberos v4, and are unofficial. Sites running# v5 should uncomment v5 entries and comment v4 entries.## $FreeBSD: src/etc/services,v 1.102 2004/08/16 11:52:22 cperciva Exp $# From: @(#)services 5.8 (Berkeley) 5/9/91## WELL KNOWN PORT NUMBERS#rtmp 1/ddp #Routing Table Maintenance Protocoltcpmux 1/tcp #TCP Port Service Multiplexertcpmux 1/udp #TCP Port Service Multiplexernbp 2/ddp #Name Binding Protocolcompressnet 2/tcp #Management Utilitycompressnet 2/udp #Management Utilitycompressnet 3/tcp #Compression Processcompressnet 3/udp #Compression Processecho 4/ddp #AppleTalk Echo Protocolrje 5/tcp #Remote Job Entryrje 5/udp #Remote Job Entryzip 6/ddp #Zone Information Protocolecho 7/tcpecho 7/udpdiscard 9/tcp sink nulldiscard 9/udp sink nullsystat 11/tcp users #Active Userssystat 11/udp users #Active Usersdaytime 13/tcpdaytime 13/udpqotd 17/tcp quote #Quote of the Dayqotd 17/udp quote #Quote of the Daymsp 18/tcp #Message Send Protocolmsp 18/udp #Message Send Protocolchargen 19/tcp ttytst source #Character Generatorchargen 19/udp ttytst source #Character Generatorftp-data 20/tcp #File Transfer [Default Data]ftp-data 20/udp #File Transfer [Default Data]ftp 21/tcp #File Transfer [Control]ftp 21/udp #File Transfer [Control]ssh 22/tcp #Secure Shell Loginssh 22/udp #Secure Shell Logintelnet 23/tcptelnet 23/udp# 24/tcp any private mail system# 24/udp any private mail systemsmtp 25/tcp mail #Simple Mail Transfersmtp 25/udp mail #Simple Mail Transfernsw-fe 27/tcp #NSW User System FEnsw-fe 27/udp #NSW User System FEmsg-icp 29/tcp #MSG ICPmsg-icp 29/udp #MSG ICPmsg-auth 31/tcp #MSG Authenticationmsg-auth 31/udp #MSG Authenticationdsp 33/tcp #Display Support Protocoldsp 33/udp #Display Support Protocol# 35/tcp any private printer server# 35/udp any private printer servertime 37/tcp timservertime 37/udp timserverrap 38/tcp #Route Access Protocolrap 38/udp #Route Access Protocolrlp 39/tcp resource #Resource Location Protocolrlp 39/udp resource #Resource Location Protocolgraphics 41/tcpgraphics 41/udpnameserver 42/tcp name #Host Name Servernameserver 42/udp name #Host Name Servernicname 43/tcp whoisnicname 43/udp whoismpm-flags 44/tcp #MPM FLAGS Protocolmpm-flags 44/udp #MPM FLAGS Protocolmpm 45/tcp #Message Processing Module [recv]mpm 45/udp #Message Processing Module [recv]mpm-snd 46/tcp #MPM [default send]mpm-snd 46/udp #MPM [default send]ni-ftp 47/tcp #NI FTPni-ftp 47/udp #NI FTPauditd 48/tcp #Digital Audit Daemonauditd 48/udp #Digital Audit Daemontacacs 49/tcp #Login Host Protocol (TACACS)tacacs 49/udp #Login Host Protocol (TACACS)re-mail-ck 50/tcp #Remote Mail Checking Protocolre-mail-ck 50/udp #Remote Mail Checking Protocolla-maint 51/tcp #IMP Logical Address Maintenancela-maint 51/udp #IMP Logical Address Maintenancexns-time 52/tcp #XNS Time Protocolxns-time 52/udp #XNS Time Protocoldomain 53/tcp #Domain Name Serverdomain 53/udp #Domain Name Serverxns-ch 54/tcp #XNS Clearinghousexns-ch 54/udp #XNS Clearinghouseisi-gl 55/tcp #ISI Graphics Languageisi-gl 55/udp #ISI Graphics Languagexns-auth 56/tcp #XNS Authenticationxns-auth 56/udp #XNS Authenticationmtp 57/tcp # That is all . . . now the wget command should work:

# wget http://brunolinux.com/03-Installing_Software/Swaret-HOWTO.txt

Or try

# swaret --update

 Bruno

Yep IFT Penguin . . . we restore the /etc/wgetrc to its original state . . . . I think we made a backup before we edited the file so the next command would do the trick

# cp /etc/wgetrc-BACKUP /etc/wgetrc

After that I want you to checck if identd is running, you can do that like this:Press the Ctrl+Esc keys for 1 second . . . and the process-table will pop up . . . please check if next to inetd you see identd running as a process and let me know.:P Bruno

Sorry for not being on yesterday. We had server issues. They were being upgraded to Slack 11.0 :) The server guy was really impressive and He is setting up a possible transparent proxy to fix our socks 4 problems. He said he could fix in no time. Which I'm sure you could if you knew the situation well enough. Anyways i restored wgetrc and inetd is running as a process. Once again Sorry and Thanks for your help so far

No problem at all Penguin ;)The thing I am really curious about now is the response on this command:

# swaret --update

If this fails again I will post instructions to get and install the updates and additional packages manually . . . . and we will see later how to fix the proxy problem. BrunoPS:

and inetd is running as a process
NOTE: it was not "inetd" but "identd" I was wondering about !! :)

I guess your schoolday is finished, so a few additional remarks:

The server guy was really impressive and He is setting up a possible transparent proxy to fix our socks 4 problems. He said he could fix in no time.
That sounds real good . . . that way we can concentrate on "really learning Linux" :w00t::) ========= Homework for tomorrow ========= :)Here are 2 URLs to watch:Slackware Changelog: ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/sla...0/ChangeLog.txt ( version 11.0 starts Oct 1st 2006 )New Updates Thread: http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/index.php?showtopic=16844( here I post the updates needed for a default install . . if you download and install the packages posted in this thread you will be fully up-to-date.Because I test all the updates before posting: if there are any issues with the updates I will post a warning and the way to avoid problems. There is a box called "options" on the right side just above the first post, if you click on it you can choose "Track this topic" . . . if you do that you will get an email every time I add another update to that thread. You can find the packages posted in above thread here:http://packages.slackware.it/We can test the install of individual packages, get this one: ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/sla...09-noarch-1.tgzDon't move it after downloading, if you downloaded it to your desktop do:
$ cd Desktop$ su<Password># installpkg slackpkg-2.09-noarch-1.tgz

( slackpkg is another slackware package manager :) )See you tomorrow !:hysterical: Bruno
