kamicota
Hi all Back again trying to overcome the USB/EPSON C64 dilema I have.Right now I do NOT have the printer added BUT here are the symtons--->>>Swith Printer on and MCC just hangs up while LOADING and can NOT remove that screenThen the computer will not shut down or Reboot it just hangs up.Yesterdayt had the Printer working on SimplyMepis 2.6 but after trying it in MDK it wouldn't work in Mepis either. So guess we are the LEARNING curve againColin but STILL
teacher
Learning Curve - Try this:Dear SantaPlease send me a Linux-compatible printer. I promise to stay in Linux and not go to that other disto if you decide I deserve one this Christmas.SincerelyKamicota
kamicota
LOVE it Julia Except the Epson C64 is on the list when I go to add it so it does seem to be supportedHad it running in SimplyMepis 2.6 tooMaybe I need to ask Santa--->>>Please show me another Linux Distro that likes my computer better than MDK 10.1 Colin but still :'(
Bruno
Wasn't it the USB port that was the troublemaker ?? . . Because in that case just plugging in a PCI USB card with extra ports could solve the problem . . . . Bruno
kamicota
BrunoI thought it was the 4 port ISB hub but that is out of the system right nowAnd when one lives in a small town with NO electronics stores getting a PCI usb carb may be a little while.I was surprised tha SimplyMepis had no problems really and did print BUT as soon as I tried in MDK 10.1 the inabilty to shut down and also connect a printer aroseRight no Bruno I am a little & :'( as to what to do.Eveb considered putting Windows in place of MDK 10.1 against my intuition of courseMay even consider a MDK 10.1 reinstall without updating or extra packages or even PCLos PV 7aSo as you can see although I have NOT done my usual IMPATIENT actions I am still in a little bit of a "WHAT SHALL I TRY NOW" FRAME OF MINDColin BUT STILL
Bruno
Has that printer the possebillity of connecting to the printerport in stead of USB ?? Bruno

Ozidave
Hi Colin, Not so good Hey!I don't know if you have tried this and there are reasons for it:SHUT the printer down, shut the PC down and turn it ALL OFF at the wall outlet. And go and have a Cup of tea. (That's what I'm going to do)So give it 5 to 10 mins before you turn it ALL back on and boot up.Then we'll try a few tricks to see what's happening. kamicota
David that might be a good idea if I thought a "good samaritan" would MIRACULOUSLY come along and do his thing Anyways I'm still playing it by earBruno gave me another RAY of hope I have a Canon i560 that has a parallel port BUT IT is NOT in the support list of Canon when you go to add a printer.DECISIONS DECISIONS DECISIONS not GOOD at my AGE Colin

Bruno
I have that printer, working in pclos, simplymepis, mandrake 10.0,and a bunch of others.(connected via USB)In that case it is something with the USB-port . . or the printer itself . . . . This is typically hardware-related-troubleB) Bruno

Ozidave
Hi Colin,Mandrake could have caused an electronic lock-up on the MoBo when you were trying to get the printer running. If the PC has not been KILLED with ALL power OFF at the wall, it MAY still be there. Wrong Capacitors get charged and switch to different components that COULD be stopping what should be an easy check to see why the printer in NOT working today. So it is important to KILL the PC first, and wait that 5 to 10 mins so that the capacitors discharge themselves. (Hopefully) So I would like you to do that first. Then boot-up into mepis and leave the Printer TURNED OFF.Then go to Printer Control Center and Click JOBS and make sure there is nothing in there waiting to be printed as the QUEUE may be written to the TEMP folder and still be active on boot-up.There could also still be corrupt info in the printer buffer if it has not been KILLED. I don't know how your printer works and stores pending jobs... Let's KILL it ALL FIRST.Somewhere.... Something is corrupt! and we're gonna find it!Let me know roughly how long you are going to be doing this... And I might go and have another cup of tea. Ozidave
Ok thanks,Now turn the Printer ON.And now let's first see if the printer is still friends with the Computer and the USB Port.(K) System / Info Center / USB Devices and tell me what you see?If you DON'T see the Printer..... Log out and log back in and try it again.

Ozidave
Good, So it appears NOT to be a USB problem at this stage. Now Un-Install the driver Completely (Delete it all again) and re-install it.Why you may ask? because it's what we did yesterday before you went to Mandrake, and while there is NO association with that... Let's give it a complete fresh start. with the CUPS+GIMP drivers again.
kamicota
DavidHOW do I uninstall the Driver???Colin
Ozidave
What we did yesterday.Go to Control Center / Printers,Left Click on Epsom C64 etc... scroll down and click 'Remove' / yes.And then re-install it with "ADD"
