I played around with many years before I started using Xmonad. Then five years later it was i3wm and I never looked back.

I guess fooling around with all the WMs and DEs is sorta like my old distro hopping days. But I do learn a bit with each one of them. That said I am unlikely to get rid of the mouse and go all keyboard, all the time. I am a poor typist and I can't remember all the keyboard shortcuts.

Awesome seems to be a good choice if you want mouse and keyboard in tandem. But it isn't all that easy to configure. It reminds me of KDE where it isn't all that difficult to screw things up.

i3wm is simple to config as its in plain english. You can still use graphical apps and the mouse if you choose, you just use the keyboard for wm navigation and window management.
