I could not do without the Klipper . . .
I'm with you, Bruno. Klipper is one of the first "extras" I load after upgrading any new system. I use it every day. It's particularly helpful in applying the information I get from this board . Jan :w00t: :o

It is Adam.  But you never have to go pull it up.  You just right click and copy and then press the middle button to paste.  There is no need to go to klipper.
I always thought that Klippy was the clip book addon so you could choose among the copied entrys. Guess I was wrong. Also I can copy using the normal left click. I only get the dialog drop down entry's when I right click.

There are now a few security updates to mandrake 10.1 :P You can find them at this ftp site. :lol:ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Man....1/main_updates41 files and 33.5 MB total at this point in time. And the .ISOs have not even been released to the general public yet. :DWith just a bit of luck, I'll still be up-to-date when the .ISOs are finally released, and avoid the rush at the ftp servers. ;)

Hi DeviantAre you using Linux to make the CD ? . . . If so: download the boot.iso from this link ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Man...images/boot.iso to your /home . . . then rightclick the file and choose "Actions" --> "Burn image with K3b" . . . . that will burn the ISO to CD and make it bootable ( and in English :"> )If you are using Windows to burn the ISO I need to know what version of Nero you use to burn the CDB) Bruno

Well here is my other question? how do I know that I don't have no virus in this OS? I download it but now this is my question? This is ftp site a virus free site? so I would not have no virus in this software at all? How do I know how much to trust it? do I have to run a virus scan? so far the OS been working fine but now this is my question?

Hi all. I was looking for a way to do drake FTP install as it seemed to me that was only a feature of Debian, which was the first distro i tried and was too hard for me.Could anyone tell me the sys req's of drake 10.1, because I couldn't even find them on the Mandrakelinux site. And I would also like to know the download size for a typical installation, as I have a 1gb monthly limit and if i go over my speed is reduced to a pathetic 28.8, and as i am not the bill payer i cant upgrade. Also, I hope the Canon BJ-200 is supported thru CUPS, because in drake 9.0 it didn't detect it.

Hi mvent2Welcome to the All Things Linux Forum ! . . . . I am afraid I have bad news for you: the download is far more then 1 GB . . . even more then 2 . . . :(I guess you better go to cheapbites or another CD service and order them for $ 5:CheapBytes OS Heaven.Net MPW Media ( UK )CheepLinux (UK) Lankum.com (AUS) Munnikes (NL) Plug ( CAN ) Minimum system specs:

Required configuration     * Pentium processor or compatible     * CDROM drive     * At least 32 MB RAM, 64 MB recommended

I see a some people are having problems getting a FTP (nteinstall) to work ?Here is a tip that I found that "was required" to get a SuSE 9.0 netinstall going a year or so ago.The whole concept is much the same (or similar) to a MDK- netinstall - but see my TIP/HINTI have a combo unit of a 4-port adsl-modem/switch/router/gateway/NATfirewall/etc. that my machines are connecting through to use the internt (Mine is a D-Link 504 but will be similar for any X-port unit)Anyhow I followed the instructions on how to use the BOOT CD (made from a boot.iso) and what ever I did I could not get it to work. EG. find the FTP mirror and Download the first stage etc.Eventually after reading all the Doc's I found one (that was one step back up the directory tree) that told me what to do. And it was all related to being behind a ROUTER/GATEWAYDuring the start of using the BOOT CD - where it should have and show an option for extra parameters, you put in (typically) :- gateway=192.168.0.1EG: whatever your gateway IP number isThis was all I had to do to get it going, after that it was a breeze and I just followed the normal Netinstall instructions. So if you are having problems ? maybe its because you are behind some sort of Router/Gateway - so look for an option at the start of using the Boot CD where you can tell the installer where your gateway is (similar to above)

Thanks John !And welkome to the forum ! . . there is indeed an option to not use DHCP but fill in the IP and gateway . . . on my 4 ports modem/router/switch DHCP worked fine, but not evey modem is the same . . . so: excellent tip !:'( Bruno

As a follow up to my previous message RE: being behind some sort of a Router/Gateway I just practiced with a BOOT CD - and found the answer - at the original item of7). Leave blank --> Press OKNOTE: this did not work for me :-( _ BUT _ if on the top line (Host name) you putgateway=192.168.0.1EG: what erver your Gateway IP number isThen leave 2nd line blank - Tab to OK and press EnterThen it all worked and continued the rest of the process process fineNOTE: I did not conplete the NetInstall as I already have 10.1 Official PowerPack installed :-)Hope that helps some one - and the original poster should note that item (7) leave blank will not be the correct thing for eceryone (NAMELY for those behind a Router/Gatway like a 4-port combo adsl-modem/switch/router/gateway/NATfirewall/etc unit)

Bruno - I did infact use DHCP as that is what my adsl-modem/switch/router/gatway/NATfirewall/etc. has - it is a DHCP-serverAll I had to do was ignore what was said about item (7) Leave blank and put ingateway=192.168.0.1And that was it, it worked

Hey everyone,I was wondering: when doing the FTP install that Bruno described, what is the correct driver to pick for my "NET device"? I have a Netgear ma311 wireless card and I'm connected to a comcast router. I have done some research and I found that the wirless card works with the orinoco_pci driver. now how can I tell the kernel to this driver so my Netgear ma311 is used to do the ftp install? :'( I have read plenty of material on how to get the wirelesscard working on a linux distro, I just need to know how to activate it right from the boot cd so I can do the magical ftp install. I apologize if this has been touched before or if this isn't clear what I am trying to ask. any feedback will be greatly appreciated. thank youviva linuxJaime

He he, that lankum.com is a ripoff, $17.60 for Mandrake 10.1 and $7.70 for Mandrake Move :'( , when on ebay I found the two on a 6 set cd for $1 (not counting postage, which is $7) and thats Aus$. Well thanks for ur help. I would also like to know how much disk space 10.1 typically requires, and whether cups in 10.1 has Canon BJ-200 because it couldn't detect it in drake 9.0

I used your instructions on how to install the official version, only changing the ftp site to a site that is suposed to be faster for my location. (ftp.riken.jp/Linux/mandrake/official/10.1/i586/), and the installation went withouit any problems! very good step by step instruction there! But, (you knew it was comming right?), I have two problems that maybe is very easy to fix, and maybe you can give a hint. :hmm:1. when I boot, I start in console mode (even thought I asked to boot in graphical mode during the instalation). when I start "startx" kde works fine! except my other problem2. when I try to run drakconnect or harddrake2 it will not start [root@localhost sverre]# drakconnectMissing pciusbtable (should be /usr/share/ldetect-lst/usbtable)[root@localhost sverre]# harddrake2Missing pciusbtable (should be /usr/share/ldetect-lst/pcitable)I checked and:[root@localhost sverre]# cat /etc/mandrakelinux-releaseMandrakelinux release 10.1 (Official) for i586[root@localhost sverre]# uname -r2.6.8.1-12mdk :clap2:I am running the official version it seems...:clap2:and for good measure, here is the dmesg output:[root@localhost sverre]# dmesgLinux version 2.6.8.1-12mdk (quintela@n5.mandrakesoft.com) (gcc version 3.4.1 (Mandrakelinux (Alpha 3.4.1-3mdk)) #1 Fri Oct 1 12:53:41 CEST 2004BIOS-provided physical RAM map: BIOS-e820: 0000000000000000 - 000000000009f000 (usable) BIOS-e820: 000000000009f000 - 00000000000a0000 (reserved) BIOS-e820: 0000000000100000 - 000000001ffae000 (usable) BIOS-e820: 000000001ffae000 - 0000000020000000 (reserved) BIOS-e820: 00000000feda0000 - 00000000fee00000 (reserved) BIOS-e820: 00000000ffb00000 - 0000000100000000 (reserved)0MB HIGHMEM available.511MB LOWMEM available. On node 0 totalpages: 130990 DMA zone: 4096 pages, LIFO batch:1 Normal zone: 126894 pages, LIFO batch:16 HighMem zone: 0 pages, LIFO batch:1DMI 2.3 present.Dell Latitude with broken BIOS detected. Hi SverreFirst: Welcome to the forum !! . . Glad the how-to did work ;)I will have to look deeper into your problem, but the first thing you will have to do is get the UPDATES . . . because I know there was a bugfix for the drakxtools, harddrake and ldetect ( hardware detection list ).We have a thread where new updates are announced ( and tested before posting ) see: http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/index.php?showtopic=9461 ( Please don't post in that thread, but do subscribe to it so you get notified as new updates are released )I will look again in this thread when I come back from work. Bruno

Thanks for quick reply, for the drakconnect and harddrake2 I simply created the folders that was missing, and run again, and it worked... it did not look the same as in the community version, but it worked (for example my centrino wireless card came up as unknown, where as in community it came up as ipw2100).I have the laptop working with the wireless card now, which is the reason why I upgraded in the first place, so that is very cool. :D but still it does not boot in grapical mode  , and also I think it seems a bit unstable (kwrite and other programs hangs once in a while).how do I upgrade ( I tried the automatic upgrade, but nothing happens) best regards,Sverre
