abarbarian Posted October 24 Posted October 24 (edited) VENTOY -- 1221 Tested Image Files (Updating) Looking through the list of tested distros that work from Ventoy I was quite surprised how many very modern offerings work from it. Such as SteamOS and RebeccaBlackOS for instance. Ventoy Persistence Plugin For a while I had Ventoy on a 64 GB stick and kept several different distros on it swapping them out as I tried them for a while. I also kept a copy of MX on it with persistence enabled. this allowed me to keep MX up to date which was nice. As it was a large drive I was able to use the remaining spare space on the drive as a normal usb for carrying around any files that I wanted to transfer to another computer. With the kept up to date MX and ability to carry files and folders easily I found my Ventoy stick most useful when traveling. Edited October 24 by abarbarian 1 Quote

Surely a simple copy to Ventoy would be easier and quicker. That is what I do anyway and that is how I installed Arch. I've had at least one Linux which wouldn't install from Ventoy. Can't quite remember, maybe OpenSUSE Tumbleweed and AVL-MXE? Worked fine when written solo to a USB key. Quote

I too have had several that did not work with Ventoy but I never bothered to find out why as all the ones I needed did work ok. That Dr.Parted Live is a really neat find. Thanks. I have a bunch of 8GB USBs sitting around here, which really don't lend themselves to a Ventoy setup. Also, I'd have to review what I'm keeping on Ventoy because a Live install can get out of date, and it might be simpler to just download a new ISO and burn that for one-time use. Right now the question is moot because I don't have any machines around where I want to do a fresh install. Quote
raymac46 Posted October 24 Author Posted October 24 I did download Dr.Parted Live and added it to my Ventoy USB. It works great. 2 Quote
crp Posted November 3 Posted November 3 i have a couple of live linux distros, an av distro and HPE for Win10 and Win11 on my main Ventoy. I tried ChromeOS but that didn't work out and as it turned out the Android app I wanted to use does not run under ChromeOS. I'm thinking about the Parrot distro. Hadn't heard about Dr.Parted before, I'll look into that. Anyway, if you have never tried Ventoy give it a shot. I would highly recommend using at least a 32GB thumbdrive (i use an 128 GB SSD with a USB dongle) and set aside a partition where you can store files and programs between sessions. 2 Quote
