crp
I don't even recall that name being used, change must have been 30 years ago.
sunrat
Yes was approximately that long ago. There was a poll or something with user submissions.
abarbarian
" The Restaurant at the Edge of the Universe " is a much cooler name than "The Water Cooler"

V.T. Eric Layton
Well, maybe not the "why", but the "when", at least.
Cluttermagnet
Here is an old post that will explain, in part, the question posed above. Please read my post above Scot's as well, for context...  https://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/index.php?/topic/21550-discussion-civility-moderation-and-moderation/#comment-256912  Yes, things could erupt into rudeness at times. We folks are not immune from the clever, worldwide campaign to divide us and keep us constantly at each others throats. How ironic that mankind is presently endangered but I cannot talk about it here or most other places due to fears of getting flamed and banned.  We are living in 'interesting' times. The world has changed, and not for the better. There is no going back IMO. We humans will have to re-invent ourselves to survive. A lot of folks got real tired of the cognitive dissonance, the constant gaslighting, designed to discourage us and cause us to question our own sanity. Out of that is growing a parallel society that may just see mankind through. Only time will tell. Meanwhile, Clutter avoids the town square because it is Crazytown now. Or 'cray cray', as the kiddos say...  Love,  Clutter
V.T. Eric Layton
Â I do my best to avoid all the feces these days. Don't need the added stress that it causes. I haven't even watched a news program for about two years now. My opinions on the future of the species H. sapiens are not very "positive". Don't matter much, though... I'll be checkin' out of this place in another 40 or so years and then whomever is left can deal with it.
Cluttermagnet
Shamelessly cross posted from another forum I hang out in... My response in a discussion of the etymology of the words "avail" and "available": Â "I tried to wake people up but it was of (to) no avail..." "I made it clear I was available to help in the effort..." "Alas, my country is an invalid politically, and has lost the will to live..." "Lost your valor, eh, sonny? Here, have some of this snake oil..." Â Yeah, as I say, 'cray cray'... Scot's Forums started in 2003. It was a crazy time. Iraq war was going on and Jeber had some interesting threads going in the Cooler at that time. Everyone was a bit jittery and looking to blow off some steam. The Cooler was a good place for that. Humor has healing properties... Bookmem
The current name is an obvious rename of "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" from the sequel to "The Hitchiker's Guide...". Personally, I think "The Water Cooler" was a better title, but it had gotten a "bad name" because some discussions had gotten too heated. How can discussions get heated in a Water Cooler ???
