abarbarian Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 So your problem is no icon for the app rather than the iBar itself? I've only ever added apps that already have icons in the main Apps menu. Correct. I have a black square on the ibar and hovering reveals the name usually for the program. Right click >Icon **prog>Properties> a window opens>Icons>left click on the icon image>new window opens to select a file> select a file>icon appears on left with info>click ok> two messages appear Failed to create directory Failed to create directory /user/share/enlightenment/icons Check that you have the correct permissions. /user/share/icons exists but not /user/share/enlightenment/icons however /user/share/enlightenment/data/icons does.So I do not know what is going on. There is a .e folder in my ~/ but the icon file chooser will not show the folder. this has some icons in it and I haved moved the ones I need into it but hey are not being accessed. Quote
alphaomega Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 two messages appear Failed to create directory Failed to create directory /user/share/enlightenment/icons Check that you have the correct permissions. Try manually creating the folders in question. I got the same error messages when I was trying to get the icons to show up. After manually creating the folders...when I selected the icons to use... a copy of the icon was placed in the new folder..and the icon showed up on the ibar. Quote

Well I created the folders and even put icons in them but they will still not show up. E 17 is pants for documentation about even the simplest things. Quote

abarbarian Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 (edited) Well the E 17 team really turned up trumps this time. Just in time for Easter they have brought out Terminology 0.3. http://www.phoronix....item&px=MTMzNjY If you love E17, an who dosen't, then it is well worth viewing the vid. I downloaded from the AUR and installed on my Arch 64. Played around with it, changed the font and the theme and used the split screen thingy. http://i.imgur.com/wsF1je1.jpg The link above gives a bigger picture. Working from top left I used the special commands to place a background of the Thors Hammer Nebula. Top right I have a .gif http://i.minus.com/iT8nnc9jRk2Y4.gif as a background and "glances", alternative top type monitor running. Bottom left episode 1 of Darker Than Black ,sorry no link ,is running. in the top right of the screen and hardly seen in the pic is a button that expands to give a handy, volume, timeline and pause control. Bottom right, same hand gif, and I tried to open up a URL but could not so used one of my alias's to take a screen capture. As you can see from the glances segment it looks like I am using %85 of my total cpu's with terminology using 97% of one cpu core. I also had FF open playing the Phronix vid and SpaceFM running. All of that did not seem to slow the pc down at all though it did start to sweat a bit. Guess I'll have to spring clean the cpu fan if I can find it in that fur ball. This is one barnstormingly fab fun program. It might even turn me into a command line geek. Have fun and have a happy fun filled Easter. Edited March 29, 2013 by abarbarian 1 Quote
abarbarian Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 (edited) Well I had a longer look at Terminology. Found a useful thread here http://www.hecticgee...minal-emulator/ A thread at the Arch forums https://bbs.archlinu...php?pid=1250103 A set of videos by rasterimann giving details of individual aspects of terminology. http://www.youtube.c...n?feature=watch The top video titled Terminology 0.3 is the same as the one over at this Phoronix article, which is what started me of on this quest. http://www.phoronix....item&px=MTMzNjY In the above video there are some new commands particular to terminology showcased. Here are a few things I have learnt about terminology usage. This is on Arch 64 with a pretty standard E17. Terminology does not do spaces in file or folder names. As " find ~/This Folder " will not work but " find ~/ThisFolder " or " find ~/This_Folder " will work. All my pre set alias's work fine. Most of the special commands work with, .jpg, .mkv, .pdf, .avi, .gif, .png files, they were the only types I tried. Have fun experimenting. You can type without the quotes " ~/somefolder " instead of " /home/user/somefolder " If you have split the screen you can close the working segment by right clicking and using the close button. Or you can just type " exit " Using " find ~/Mirages/screenshots " (use your own folder names) brings up a list of files. When you hover the mouse over a file if it brings up a underline, then that file can be viewed in the terminal. Or you could " cd " to the folder and use the " tyls " command. This brings up a list of files with thumbnails. Click a thumbnail to view and right click to close or click in the terminal but outside the pop up. With both of the above you can carry on using the terminology and it will scroll along like any other terminal. You can scroll back several pages or even right back to the beginning and any of the files lists brought up by " find " or " tyls " will still be viewable. Handy if you need to recap on some info negates the need to retype commands. I could not play any .mp3 files. The command " typop somefile.pdf " will bring up a pop up viewer and the file can be viewed. On multi page .pdf files only the first page will show and you can not turn pages. Not all multi page .pdf files I tried would open for me. Single pages were ok. I could not open any " .txt " files. You can open URL's. Simply type the URL and it should underline, clicking on it brings up the web page in a pop up Net Surf ( you may be able to change the browser). These links worked, http://imgur.com/PGTtC8o http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/ http://youtu.be/SN5stpMoVs0 The youtube link opened but would not play the video, a Net Surf problem I think. You can set a background with " tybg somfilename.jpg " (or other file extensions) Using " tybg "" " will take you back to default. Using " tybg -p somefile.jpg " will make the background permanent. Using "tycat somefile " will open the file and place it in the terminal till you close the terminal. You can open any number of files this way. Useful say if you quickly want to compare two files ie. " group " and " group.pacnew ". A realy funky feature can be implemented by viewing this vid and following the links there. An this is what my terminology looks like now. http://imgur.com/PGTtC8o clicking the pic in the link brings it up full size. Have fun trying out terminology. Towards the end of the Phoronix vid there is a rather fancy feature shown but I could not work out how to do it. If anyone figures it out please do post. Happens around the 11 min mark. abarbarian Posted May 3, 2013 Author Posted May 3, 2013 After E17 crashed my system and "aur/elementary-git 1.7.99.7674-1 -> 1.7.99.7772.d331257-1" refuses to upgrade I'm having a rest from this talented but flawed offering. I must say that E17 was a great deal better this time around and the developers have made some neat changes. However E17 is still like a unfinished painting. You can see what the picture will look like, charcoal lines ,first colour washes and paint outs and blocks of perfectly finished painting. You can see what a masterpiece this will be, maybe. As E17 is still so buggy and unfinished I was suprised to read that E18 is slated to arrive next year. I'll not be holding my breath and waiting eyes agog and salivating like the writer of the article I read. Me I'd rather read that E17 had been polished and tweaked and was now running like a well designed and finely manufactured machine. I'll not be holding my breath waiting for that article either. So me I'm of to play with Window Maker again. Yes I know it is old and creaky and not everything works just so and it will suit me. You see I will not be reading about all those wonderful features that have been half implemented and will be arriving from around the corner tomorrow that never arrive because the bus has taken a different route again. I'll not be fooled into trying out and wasting time on some new feature that the article writers read about and wrote about but never tried out fully that has more bugs than my roses. Not me. I'll be having a quick fiddle and play with my creaky old replacement every now and again. Happy that I am not expecting anything and even happier if I manage to make some minor improvement or bling addition. At least for now. Quote
abarbarian Posted February 13, 2015 Author Posted February 13, 2015 Introducing ePad no it is not a Yorkshire version of the iPad. As of today my ePad source is nearing a 1.0.0 release and the goal of this post is to let folks outside of Bodhi know it exists and that it is ready for them to give it a try. ePad in its current form supports most all of the features you would expect from a text editor: Cut, Copy, Paste, Undo, Redo, Find, Replace, and displaying Line Numbers. On top of these it also supports opening multiple files in the same application window. Looks really cool. I know it is not an easter egg but did not want to start another thread. Quote
