right there with ya crp!  the company's a mess....for various reasons.  rather than "fix" the problems, they decided to fix the name.  tells me all I need to know about the new ownership (can't really call THAT leadership, IMO) and confirms my decision to avoid the platform.  Twitter, it will remain!

It's being called Xitter in certain parts of the internet. Seems more appropriate.  😁

Given the quality of the messages and information produced by X This visual representation of a common slang word might be a more appropriate name.

I take it you preferred the co. when the govt censored its content?  (And I'm going to get censored for politicizing. As if it wasn't already 😆)

Anything any countries' gov or legislative body has the legal power to censor hasn't changed, just because the company changed owners. Some level of moderation is legally obligated, and an additional level is practically obligated to run a functional platform. (Twitter continues to moderate over and above any legal requirements, because if it didn't then the site would lose a significant number of users).

I find the claim that Musk is a champion of free speech extremely dubious, when he bans accounts at will for upsetting his fragile ego.

The Biden admin wasn't using legal means.  They were colluding with big tech to spread PROPAGANDA.  BIG DIFFERENCE!😝

Let’s keep posts on topic and non-political please.

A change in ownership of a company doesn’t change any legislation affecting it - every country has certain types of content that are illegal, e.g. abuse of minors is a common one.

Twitter is just as obligated to remove illegal content now, as it was before.

Illegal content wasn't all that was being removed.

You're welcome to take aim at historical moderation policies - but changing owner doesn't change the fact that X still has it's own moderation policies.

The legal stuff is the same. The non-legal stuff is company policy. And then there is a large grey area in the middle (e.g. Twitter is still obliged to remove hate speech, and misinformation if it wants to continue to operate in the EU).

The new Twitter still has arbitrary moderation and account removals - including content and accounts being removed because Musk personally does not like them.
