sunrat
Apple are not happy about this. I however, have no sympathy for companies that eschew standards. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-09-24/eu-plans-to-make-usb-c-chargers-standard/100487874
zlim
I was reading about this, this morning. It is NOT just phones. Quote USB-C will become the standard port for all smartphones, tablets, cameras, headphones, portable speakers and handheld video game consoles," the EU said in a statement. Source: https://ec.europa.eu/docsroom/documents/46755 Truthfully, it would make life easier if all our gadgets use the same type charging port. Right now my phone, my husband's new flip phone and my 10" table use micro-USB. The Kindle, my chromebook and my 8" tablet use USB C. I bought an adapter to change micro USB to USB C so if I travel, I only have to take one charging/data cable. They'll no longer be able to force their users pay them $50 for a charger they'll now be able to buy elsewhere for $10. As to the micro USB vs USB C, that was solving itself. Even cheap devices today use USB C. Edited October 4, 2021 by Bookmem
