I was reading about this, this morning. It is NOT just phones.

USB-C will become the standard port for all smartphones, tablets, cameras, headphones, portable speakers and handheld video game consoles," the EU said in a statement.

Truthfully, it would make life easier if all our gadgets use the same type charging port. Right now my phone, my husband's new flip phone and my 10" table use micro-USB. The Kindle, my chromebook and my 8" tablet use USB C.

I bought an adapter to change micro USB to USB C so if I travel, I only have to take one charging/data cable.

Apple are not happy about this. I however, have no sympathy for companies that eschew standards.

Of course Apple isn't happy.  They'll no longer be able to force their users pay them $50 for a charger they'll now be able to buy elsewhere for $10.  As to the micro USB vs USB C, that was solving itself.  Even cheap devices today use USB C.
