crp Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 There is a nasty software targeting it? https://www.digitaltrends.com/news/wd-my-book-live-owners-need-to-act-now-to-protect-their-data/ 2 Quote
securitybreach Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 Wow! Another good reason to always wipe the drives and their software before using them. Quote
saturnian Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 The announcement from Western Digital was regarding My Book Live and My Book Live Duo: https://community.wd.com/t/action-required-on-my-book-live-and-my-book-live-duo/268147 I have an older WD My Book external hard drive that I use. It isn't a My Book Live device, though. I never did delete the software from it. But I have the My Book partition and a partition I use for some backups; I never even mount the My Book partition. This external is getting real long-in-the-tooth (lol -- same here!). Haven't decided what to replace it with. Anyway, looks like I don't have to worry about this problem with the data being deleted. 1 Quote
Guest Mauser Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 Not an issue for me because I removed all that factory Malware/Spyware from it by reformatting my 8TB WD Book Drive to ext4 file system and installed full disk encryption on it. I only attach it when I do backups. Quote
