crp Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 (edited) I find this hard to believe, and I am no GGLE apologist - https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/06/even-creepier-covid-tracking-google-silently-pushed-app-to-users-phones/ Edited June 22, 2021 by crp Quote
securitybreach Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 Google and Apple rolled out the COVID-19 Exposure Notifications last year (04/2020) but you have to opt in to use it. https://www.google.com/covid19/exposurenotifications/ That said, this is the first I have heard of a state automatically installing something on your phone. securitybreach Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 This being google (or apple), I do not trust that this is accurate Quote The Exposure Notifications System does not collect or use the location from your device. It uses Bluetooth, which can be used to detect if two devices are near each other — without revealing where the devices are. Only public health authorities will be able to use this system. They must meet specific criteria around privacy, security, and data use. All of the Exposure Notification matching happens on your device. The system does not share your identity with other users, Apple, or Google. Public health authorities may ask you for additional information, such as a phone number, to contact you with additional guidance. Quote
