abarbarian Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 You can build Linus Torvalds' PC: Here's all the hardware and where to buy it Quote Normally, Torvalds would pop into his local Fry's. But in these pandemic times, he ordered everything from Amazon. Here's the complete list of parts. Look what's inside Linus Torvalds' latest Linux development PC Quote The Linux creator recently announced he'd upgraded his main PC to a speedy AMD Threadripper 3970x-based processor. But a computer is more than a CPU. In an exclusive conversation, Torvalds talked about what's what with his latest system. Nice articles. Quote
raymac46 Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 Interesting. When I got my first all-Linux, all the time box in 2008 it was a crapshoot to go with AMD/ATI hardware. Although I have had some compatibility issues in the past, the reliability of AMD has never been a problem. Now it looks as if AMD is becoming the default choice for FOSS hardware. Quote
securitybreach Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 Just the processor and motherboard alone are $2500. He does need moar monitors though Quote
raymac46 Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 Yeah I'd be pairing an RX580 with an R5 2600 or so, not a Threadripper. He wouldn't have any CPU bottlenecking issues. Quote
