Here's how things shake down in my stable of junkers:

  1. 10 year old Netbook, Atom processor, 2 GB, SSD Linux performance - Bad.
  2. 8 year old laptop, Dual core AMD, 8 GB, HDD Linux performance - Good.
  3. 12 year old desktop Dual Core AMD, 6 GB, HDD Linux performance - Okay.
  4. 6 year old desktop Quad Core AMD, 16 GB, SSD Linux performance - Great.
  5. 6 year old laptop, i5-3320M, 8 GB, SSD Linux performance - Great.

Your "junkers" are newer than my working computers!

I'm on an 11 year old eMachine Walmart special desktop. My Acer netbook is 7 years old. Both are used daily.

My husband's Dell refurbed desktop is probably 13 or 14 years old. His Acer netbook, a hand-me-down from me is 9 years old. He uses the netbook daily. The desktop is no longer used very often.

Well maybe not all but the first 3 would be. The netbook my neighbor gave up on years ago and I rescued it from the recycle bin. The 12 year old desktop I got to replace a Dell from 2000. The 8 year old laptop has a broken hinge.
