A member PM'd me asking the above question earlier today. I want to answer that question here for general knowledge/instruction for everyone to see so that they will understand and not need to be concerned.

Guests are common visitors to our board. Many are just bots snarfing data for search engines and whomever/whatever. Some are real people, though, who've been brought here usually by links elsewhere (other boards, social media, or search engine results). Below is a brief overview of what Guests can do when they come to this board.

Guests have READ ONLY access to the following board/forums:

Yup

I believe that it has always been this way though. Most forums that I know of use a similar model, although some allow you to look at profiles without logging in.

Actually, the member who asked about this was concerned that guests could see profiles of members. I didn't think they could, but I was wrong. I adjusted those permissions to specifically disallow profile views by guests from now on. I don't even remember if guests could see the profiles on the older versions of the board. I think they may have been able to then also. :(

Anyway, all gooder now. ;)

I don't really care about anyone seeing my Profile. When I create them on different boards and social media, I expect them to be public, so there's nothing in them that concerns me were they to be viewed by a stranger.
