I've never used or thought much about VPNs but this made me read a bit more and learn that VPNs can be less secure than what one would hope for. The VPN operators apparently rent servers from hundreds of providers around the world so are not in direct control of these. The Nord hack was possible because of a security breach in a third-party provider. Regardless of how the hack was initiated, the bottom line is that it was most definitely some sort of stupid or lackadaisical IT staff that let it happen. Bad IT Security departments make hackers very happy. Quote
