Reducing it's height to be the same as say that of the Logged is as: box would save screen space and look better. IMHO

Agreed :thumbsup:Also, the first toolbar at the top (Scot's Newsletter - Subscription Center ....) is ugly @ 800x600 because of forced line breaks. Suggestion: remove the "Help", "Search", "Members", and "Calendar" text and just have the icons. Also put ALT text on the icons to describe their respective actions.

You mean use TITLE text, right? B)

No, the TITLE attribute is for <A> tags. The ALT attribute is for <IMG> tags.Notice I suggested to *remove* the text beside the icons.

You can use title on an image.I take it you want the alt text for a tooltip? Thats wrong (IE--and maybe opera--only). Its one of those things that Mozilla will never support (like colored scrollbars). Alt text is for text browsers (or regular browsers with images turned off, etc)...title is what is suggested for tooltips.[edit]This Mozilla Bug has some "good" discussion in it. Many people claim that it should be displayed, but pay particular attention to Ian "Hixie" Hickson when he explains why its wrong.Of course, you may already know this, I'm just pointing it out in case you don't

I do believe the forum rules box is larger to get your attention. Arena2045 has worked long and hard on this for a job that does not pay a thing. It looks great to me. I do believe that if you removed the labels nobody would figure out what they were. It is much better to have them with the words than without to help the new person that might need them, particularly the help and search. I find that it is not ugly no matter how I drag my window. I think it is time to learn to live with it rather than complain that every little thing be changed to suit one or two folks. Julia

You don't think the bold RED text does that?

Some folks need more than one way to get their attention!
I agree ;) Naturally things look prominent to those of us who frequent the Forums often. But those those who come only ocassionally, and more so, new members who may not be familiar with BB's (Yes!... believe or not... there are some of those still around B) )...Bold Sign Posts make learning the rules & the ropes, much easier ;)Now I'm not saying that any of these are not worth considering...But as Ross549 pointed out in another Thread...Let's let the dust settle from the recent changes (and don't forget... there were a lot more things that could have gone wrong, but didn't)...And wait until after the Server switch.

Oh really? I say Firefox/Mozilla is wrong. W3C agrees...alt_attribute_required.png

No one's questioning the color or boldness of the text, nor the font, just the emply space above and below it.If extra space around the bold red text is important why does the board's software delete extra blank lines and spaces in postings? As for the Server switch we really don't have any date, or data, on that.

epp_b the ALT attribute is needed for browsers that are not able to display the graphic for any number of reasons. And Netscape and I'm sure Mozilla supports that function. But once the graphic is displayed the ALT attribute looses it's usefulness. Putting the pointer over the image doesn't bring up the text.

What is he your son? I'm not saying he didn't do a good job on the upgrade, he did, but it's been said that he's a college student and college let out 6 weeks ago at least in the US. I'm sure he had lots of time and enjoyed every minute of it. If you're against change then you must hate the fact the software got updated at all. The suggestion is reasonable, why make it an issue? ;)

It's impossible to please everyone - people use different software, different operating systems, and different settings. This is a free service with unpaid volunteers that do a great job and I think we just need to be thankful that we have what we do have. It could be worse - could be ads all over the place.Stating that people have lots of time to work here is way off base - unless you know the person and their schedule you have no idea how much time they have. Summer time is an extremely busy time of year for most here in the USA.Regarding the other post in the feedback area about changing php code in IPB - this is not an easy thing to do at all, one wrong thing and the whole board is rendered useless. Locating the correct php file and line is a nightmare in itself - so what if it takes you to the board error page at least the forum is working. One change usually effects another and I know this cause I work with IPB files all the time and have one forum right now heavily moded and after talking with people that create the mods and the conclusion is that it is no easy thing to do and some have totally burnt their forum by changing the code.I close by saying Thanks to everyone here who makes this place what it is, everything looks great on this end.

Thank you for your suggestions, they have been noted. However, we are not changing the underlying code of the forum. Simply Put. :)

Excellent idea! Thanks for the suggestion. I'll be adding ads to the forum, and keeping the minimal profits as compensation for my work here at Scots.Look for the ads soon.

That comment is both uncalled for and rude in the extreme. Obviously, you haven't noted what Arena does for this forum, but I assure you, if it were not for his knowledge and hard work, you'd be posting to a forum that offered one skin color, a few emoticons and several versions old. You'd also have fewer forums to post to. Besides Scot's contribution of starting this forum in the first place, Arena has been practically the sole force of improvement to this place. This week he was required to add to his busy personal life the responsibility of single-handedly upgrading this forum to a new version. For that he receives no compensation and no reward. He did it for the sole purpose of making the forum a more enjoyable place for all of you. And now you're going to turn around and insult him and expect more little adjustments to make you happy? Sorry, that's not how it works around here. Since we can't offer money, we instead extend our thanks and appreciation for work and commitment beyond the call of duty. Arena is not only a fellow admin here, he's also my friend and a valuable member of this community. If you feel I'm coming off a bit harshly, you're correct. I can't stand by and see someone's hard work and dedication abused. Especially when it's Arena.
