I noticed this last night when I was editing a post:

Earlier this year, Google+ community managers gained the ability to pin posts to the top of a page, useful during those times when you want visitors to see something in particular the first time they arrive. The thing is, community pages aren't the only ones that could benefit from such a feature. So the capability to now rolling out for regular profiles and pages as well. General users can now pin posts using the web version Google+ from their PC.

To pin, click on the drop down menu at the top of a public post. The option should be the first one on the list. Once pinned, a green thumb pin will appear in the top right corner. The post should now appear above all of your others.

Pinned posts are visible on the web and inside the Android app, though the ability to actually do the pinning hasn't yet showed up inside the latter. We suspect Google plans to roll it out gradually soon enough.

i am ever so thankful i avoid most social media. :o

And you are missing out on a huge portion of the internet. I am not referring to Facebook but places like Google+ where friends and discussion are based on interest versus just someone you went to highschool with. This makes for interesting conversation and it is an excellent news aggregator.

Google+ can be a very useful tool but it all depends on who you follow or what Communities you are a part of. I only used Facebook for about a week a couple of years ago but have been on G+ since the beta days. I own an Archlinux Community with almost 35,000 members and have over 6 million views of my profile. This isn't useless chain letters and cat pics but interesting conversation with scientists, engineers, computer hackers and pretty much all walks of life. You really should check out Google+. I think you will really enjoy it.
