SonicDragon
In my quest to decide if I will be making the "switch" this summer, I'd like to know if anyone has had any experiences with X11 applications like GIMP or OpenOffice on OS X. Do they generally run ok? Any stability or speed problems? I'd like to avoid spending the money on office if possible, but if OpenOffice doesn't really work that well on the mac, I might not have a choice. Also, i'm certainly not buying PhotoShop , but i do like to do little graphics things here and there that the GIMP would be great for.If the GIMP doesn't work so well, what about PhotoShop Elements (that's the cheap one right )? Any experiences good or bad? Will it be too basic or will i never need the features that I'm missing compared to the full blown PhotoShop? Thanks again! Neil P
I remembered this post from here from a long time ago (wow, I didn't know it was that long ago, though!) once I saw this article linked from OSNEWSI didn't read it, but it doesn't look all that bad.:w00tx100:Neil
SonicDragon
Oooo thanks.Let me follow up on my post... i forgot about it as well. I did end up buying MS Office. As a student, i can't afford to have any compatability issues. However, I also installed Open Office, and it works quite well, though i find my self defaulting to Word. I'm not too happy about Word for the Mac. It is sloow -- unresponsive. It gets a little frustrating.GIMP works really well under X11 too. No problems with it whatsoever. Lately... i've been having tons of fun with the OS X Internationalization options Edited January 21, 2005 by SonicDragon
