teacher
I knew it had to be just a matter of time before they came up with something else. Transparent ads on top of what you are viewing will be just as annoying. Julia
rolanaj
It is going to get to the point nobody is going to surf the internet if this keeps up. Why would any company want to annoy a potential customer like that?
Guest LilBambi
I've seen those stupid floating and transparent ads for cars and stuff, they are pretty darn annoying too.Figures...just figures. >_
Cluttermagnet
Ho hum-If this sort of thing starts to appear in my browser window (Firefox 0.8), I will kill that site and not revisit it again, no matter what. Even if it can overcome my adblocker or whatever, it can't keep me captive, I don't imagine. I simply mouse over that Kill Tab "X" over to the right, and it should be goodbye troublemakers. If they want to play really rough like the porn sites that pop up endless new windows as you kill them, I kill the entire browser and restart it. If necessary, CTRL+ALT+DEL and kill the browser that way. Don't mess with me! Problem solved, url gets added to my personal blacklist (just my own memory). How very lame of them- and controlling. Grrrrr!!!
Cluttermagnet
It is going to get to the point nobody is going to surf the internet if this keeps up. Why would any company want to annoy a potential customer like that?  Apparently they figure they can get away with that, if only once. They must figure on the shock value reinforcing the impression, even if strongly negative. Interesting concept- all those ads that disgusted you- the ones you swore you would never, ever buy their product- well, research supposedly shows that the anger subsides over time but the impression made by the offending ad stays . Well, isn't that special. Can you believe it? Those insane, super loud ads on the radio with Crazy Eddie or whoever screaming and bellowing that you should just get right down there and take advantage of them right away- they are pushovers and don't know how to run a car dealership so why not go and help them out. They will be easy. Go forth, little lamb, to the slaughter. Those frickin' ads actually work! That's right, people are idiots. It's been scientifically proven. Four fifths of my dentist recommends Colgrate, and the other fifth doesn't give a hoot!
jodef
I guess much like spammers you gotta believe these people are getting some kinda results or they would've stopped by now right?
zlim
Does Firefox have restricted sites ability like IE (in security)? I couldn't find anything - guess I need to put in a wish list request. If so, I will start adding any site that does this to be sure I don't go there again.
Neil P
These type of ads can probably be blocked through userContent.css (in firefox/mozilla) and I'm sure they will be supported by the AdBlock extension. I'm not that worried...but it is annoying
Stryder
Even if these types of ads do become the norm, it will take all of 5 minutes for someone to write a program to block them as well. So no need to worry folks.
claren44
What's gonna be fun is when XP SP2 is d/l'd by lots of folks who don't know configure from go figure. First, they'll have boxes popping up when they click they same links they always click, boxes asking if they want this popup blocked. Then they can't get streaming content (I know-my streaming provider {live365} & we broadcasters have had all sorts of fun w/ Norton Firewall). Folks read that "You need a Firewall" (True.). So,they go to Office Max/Depot & buy Norton. They install it. Then, when they can't get their fave internet radio station, they are lost. They aren't to blame,& neither is Norton (I use Zone Alarm,so I don't know Norton's setup routine or how much info is understandable to non-geeks). But a lot of people are going to be confused/upset/p'o'd over the next few years,as they are 'protected from themselves'.sigh...Love & Peace,Clarence ps: I use web-based email exclusively...& friends ask "How come you don't get viruses?'...
