raymac46
I had a monitor install fest today. It all started when I took some old computer parts to Staples for recycling and discovered they had a sensational sale on flat screen monitors. I was able to pick up a 23 inch LED Acer for 40% off. It is an HDMI model but Acer obligingly supplied the HDMI cable. So plugged it into my HDMI equipped video card on my main desktop and I was good to go. The 21 inch DVI monitor it replaced went to my Linux desktop in the basement. The video card there also supports DVI. Then I took the older 20 inch DVI monitor from that machine and installed it on my junk room jukebox. Again a DVI capable card in play. The ancient 17 inch D-sub VGA flat screen monitor from that junker went to storage as a test monitor for old equipment I get from time to time. At the end of the day I am totally DVI/HDMI now on my desktops and I don't have to wrestle any more CRTs to test out a 2005 era machine. It's all good. RichardKR
I love building and maintaining my own hardware for just this reason. Migration. A new piece of equipment is purchased and 3 computer systems get an upgrade. Congrats on the good deal!
raymac46
Actually I think the biggest difference is in my 2nd desktop where the old 20 inch LCD got replaced by a nice 21 inch LED monitor. That machine has a pretty good Nvidia GT440 video card and the replacement monitor looks great. 64 bit Linux Mint Cinnamon is fast and responsive even though the CPU and motherboard are 2007 vintage.
