I insert the DVD in and it will find it let me explore it but it wont play as a DVD and media player can't find it either. I'm running my W8 on a older HP pavilion dv6000 which other wise have really helped my old laptop. Anyone?

Thanks

Just get Portable VLC or Portable KMPlayer. They have all of the codecs built in.

Edit:

I downloaded that player

Oops. Didn't see that.

Not many folks watch DVDs on computers anymore, so Microsoft felt that it was not worth it to license a DVD decoder for each copy of Windows.
