marcos9999 Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 I don't know if this is a Windows 8 bug but it started after I installed on my laptop. I have a DSL connection which has these micro interruptions, my iphone and TV have no problems reconnecting of only a few seconds but my laptop can't find the connection and only finds it when I restart the computer. Any clues anyone? Quote
Guest LilBambi Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Are you using a router? If so, maybe try updating the firmware on the router? So many problems with newer OSes have been fixed with such a simple fix. Quote
goretsky Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 (edited) Hello, Perhaps the wireless adapter is being suspended in order to save power. Have you tried disabling power management for the wireless adapter under Windows 8? Here's one way to do this under Windows 8: Click on Winkey+R to bring up the run dialog and enter NCPA.CPL as the name of the program to launch and press Enter. The Network Connections Control Panel Applet will appear. In the Network Connections Control Panel Applet double-click on the entry for the wireless adapter. The wireless adapter's Status dialog will appear. In the wireless adapter's Status dialog, click on the Properties button. The wireless adapter's Properties dialog will appear. In the wireless adapter's Properties dialog, click on the Configure button. The wireless adapter's Configuration dialog will appear. In the wireless adapter's Configuration dialog, click on the Power Management tab. On the Power Management tab, de-select (un-check) the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option. Click on the OK button to commit the change At this point, wireless adapter should stay powered up continuously, and more importantly, the connection should not drop. Guest LilBambi Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 You are using WPA/WPA2 w/preferably AES encryption on your network, right? WEP is apparently not supported in Windows 8. Just connects and disconnects without giving any access. Frustrating till I looked online and others were having the same issue. Quote
marcos9999 Posted December 4, 2012 Author Posted December 4, 2012 Thank you so much for your great knowledge. I tried Aryeh's approach to see if works. I could never think about these solutions. This forum rocks! Quote
Guest LilBambi Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Did Aryeh's approach work for you, marcos9999? You didn't say if it was successful. Quote
Guest LilBambi Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 So glad Aryeh posted about the power settings. It is crazy that Microsoft has powersettings set on network cards by default! That is one of the first things I change when I work on a computer, that and, what to do when the lid is closed and what it does when on plugin power! There is NO need for many of the power settings to be set as they are when it's plugged into power! Quote
