kamicota
Hi ALL As if my trips into Gimp 2.0 yesterday wene't enough.Decide to install Suse 9.0 by 1.00 am in the morning had 3 yes 3 Installs that didn't work Each one ended up with a black screen STARING back at me.So reinstalled Xandros 2.0 Tried a 4th install this morning realizing it chose the wrong monitor so change to the Daytek D 77A. So far so good BUT NO WAY Still that Black Screen looking at meSo ON Goes Xandros again Thank you Xandros for saving my skin A little screen that popped up was to do with NVidia Drivers and how suse had change AFTER Suse 8.2Back to SQUARE One we are with Suse :'( Colin
b2cm
There's something in your hardware mix that many Linux distros and LiveCDs don't like.

Bruno
Hi ColinGlad you started a new thread about this . . . . . . so let us try to focus:I want to know what the "little screen" exactly said . . . . . and what the options are when you press F1 before the install begins . . ( cheatcodes ) How come you had no problem with nViudia in SUSE 8.2 . . . . and now suddenly in SUSE 9.0 you have ?? Does not make sense . . .As long as the "real" nVidia drivers are not installed it should use generic ones . . Bruno
diska
There's something in your hardware mix that many Linux distros and LiveCDs don't like.I have to agree with b2cm. You have a problem with your hardware. Probably with your video card or memory from all of the problems that you have been having. Try changing your video card to a plain jane video card and see what happens. Try to find a non [Nvidia] non [Radeon} card just for testing purposes and to see if that is what the problem is. As I recall you are using a MB with the Nforce Chipset. Is the video built in? What type of memory?Mel ;)PS I am using someone else's computer thats why it says Diska forgot to log on as myself. Oh well!!!
Bruno
Good call Mel . . . . Welcome to the forum !! ;) Bruno
kamicota
Yeah Mel WELCOME And yes i have an ASUS MB with onboard nVidia Sound and VideoAnd it only recently become noticeable that liveCD's and now Suse 9.0 seems to stop after finalizing the installDidn't think it was possible to change the Video Card on the motherboard though Colin
kamicota
BrunoA little screen was one of suse Information screens that said Suse had changed the way nVidia was handles after Suse 8.2Colin
Bruno
Hi ColinThat sould not mean you could not use cheatcodes . . . . SUSE can not exclude nVidia video card from their distro . . :)On the other video card . . if you get a simple PCI one you can probably disable the onboard in the BIOS. kamicota
Brunohere's a little of Suse's How to-->>>NOTE: The nvidia installer does not work as long as a Xserver is still running and the nvidia kernel module is still loaded. Therefore please boot into runlevel 3 by specifying "3" as kernel boot option or switch to runlevel 3 ("init 3") and unload the kernel module ("rmmod nvidia") before running the nvidia installer. It is recommended to use YOU (YaST Online Update) for (re)installationof the nvidia driver. There are several reasons for this. First, it'ssimple. Second, and this is the most important one, you won't need torecompile the nvidia kernel module after a kernel update.Inside YOU enable "Installable and Installed Patches" for "Show PatchCategory" and select "Download NVIDIA© Graphics Driver" from thepatches list (usually at the bottom of the list). Note, that you needto mark it as "Update" (right mouse click) if you already installed itbefore and the driver was uninstalled - for any reason. Proceed asusual now. After YOU has finished restart your Xserver (i.e. logoutfrom your Xsession) and you're fine.Colin

Bruno
Hi ColinEither we need somebody with SUSE 9.0 to tell us if there are cheatcodes for the install so we can avoid the nVidia drivers and do the install with generic drivers . . . . Or there must be an option during the install where you can set up ( AND TEST ) the generic drivers for your card. Bruno
kamicota
yeah BrunoDid NOT see anything to Test the drivers. Bruno
Adam . . we have to keep it simple . . this is even harder then the nVidia driver story posted above by Colin . . . . I was thinking of a simple cheatcode before the install in combination with a test of the video settings during the install . . Bruno
How do you boot SUSE ?? . . With Xandros Lilo ?? . . If so we have to add a line in that Lilo . . . If you use SUSE's grub:Can you reach the SUSE "/boot/grub/menu.lst" from Xandros ?? . . In that case change vga=788 to vga=normal . . .
