ibe98765
These things are VERY annoying. Is there some setting to show the avatar without animation or do I have to turn off showing the avatar completely?
Jeber
As far as I know, you can show avatars or not show them...but you can't change their format.
ibe98765
IMHO, animated avatars should be blocked if possible or not allowed at all. Animations on web sites usually comes in as the number one or two complaint by users. They are very distracting. Please, people, don't use these... havnblast
I think some are very creativeEveryone has different tastes and the option to turn em off is there so it's like nobody is forced to it.
teacher
You can turn them off in your browser. Which browser are you using? I keep them turned off in Firebird and Galeon. --Julia
eksimba
You can do the same in IE:Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Multimedia -> "Play animations in web pages" (clear the checkbox)
eksimba
Hah! I just realized that on this forum I am using an animated gif as an avatar!Sorry if I offend anyone...
Guest Paracelsus
They don't bother me a bit.If I found one that I liked... I'd use it.Why not set up a Poll???
Corrine
Most animated avatars don't phase me in the least -- an I like many of them, including eksimba's. However, I ran across one today that I would have quickly removed if I had admin access to the person's profile. The url was linked from another site and unfortuntely the person used the same avatar at both locations. I decided I didn't care what his problem is -- his avatar was problem enough to me!THIS is an Irritating Avatar!
teacher
CorrineThat is absolutely the worst avatar I have ever seen. I concur 100%. I don't mind eksimba or Bruno's avatar but i don't like any that flash! I have them turned off on most of my computers. --Julia
ibe98765
I use Slim Browser and found that I had mistakenly turned on "allow animations". I turned it off and they went away, which is good, as far as I am concerned.
b2cm
I have an animated avatar, too. I'll change it now that I know it bothers some others. Sorry guys.
Guest Paracelsus
I have an animated avatar, too. I'll change it now that I know it bothers some others. Sorry guys.Don't change it, b2cm!!We're all equal here, and have the right to express ourselves through our Avatars I don't find the voice of dissent loud enough to warrant changing things. If anyone has a problem with a particular Avatar, they can take their complaint through the proper channels and contact the appropriate Moderator. teacher
b2cm What happened? Where did your avatar go? I much prefer the old one to this. Where is the grass roots campaign to bring your avatar back? Folks that don't like animation can simply turn it off in their browsers. Those that want to see it choose to do so and those that don't turn it off. ;)Bring back your avatar please b2cm!--Julia

siebkens
Bring back the avatar b2cm! (said in a chanting, animated way!) Thanks for letting folks know that they don't have to see the animated avatars & how to turn them off if that's their preference. When I accidentally turned off avatars that came from off-site, I really missed the little guys, girls, critters, etc. I like the avatars, whether animated or not. Definitely shows folks' personalities. If my kids ever have avatars, I feel certain they would be highly animated too!

Ed_P
I think the animated annoyance factor is tied to the speed of the animation and possibly the changing of the objects shape. Few annoy me but I could see the one pointed out earlier being that way.
