Guest ThunderRiver Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 Want to hide user accounts on your Windows Xp for whatever the reasons you have? Well, here it isBy the way, that's how Administrator account is hidden in Xp by default. You obviuosly can make it show up Quote
Guest ComputerBob Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 Maybe this should be a PC Prank thread. Years ago, my boss and I would prank each other as sort of "stay alert" troubleshooting exercises. My best one was:[*] Taking a screenshot of her normal desktop[*] Setting that screenshot to be her desktop background[*] Hiding all of her normal desktop icons in one folderShe clicked and clicked, but none of her many, many "icons" responded (actually the one with her icons inside it would have, if she had clicked on it), but she finally gave up and asked me what I had done. We had a big laugh over that one. Quote
Peachy Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 We did that prank on a student that worked for us... man he just kept rebooting his machine because he thought Windows had frozen on him! Quote
Guest ThunderRiver Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 I tried it before, but the person is quite smart. He just pressed "Ctrl+ALt+Del" a couple times, and then the classic login screen shows up. He typed in his user name and password and he is in Quote
Scot Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 Good tip, Thunder. Not just for prankster possibilities either. It's appropos of another thread around here somewhere that I know both peachy and I were in. The thing that always gets me is how many things like this experienced people learn and use everyday without thinking about it. Most of my best tips are things like this. But it occurs to me that this one may be one I should run in the newsletter. If you decide NOT to enable Guests on your XP machines on a network, but instead create users for the other machines on your network, using this tip simplifies your Windows Welcome screen.I remember reading about this a long time ago, and then, of course, forgetting it. -- Scot Quote
