Last few days, after posting, I've been getting the old "not found" message. Hitting F5/refresh, takes me back to the whole forum list and the post is of course, there. I think we went to the Linux server when this was happening in the past but since it is occurring again, it looks like this problem is not OS related. Maybe the IPB code itself?---Edited update----Just got the message again when I made this original postCannot find server or DNS ErrorInternet Explorer

optimizing the database shouldn't have anything to do with DNS error tho
I’ve found that such errors tend to disappear after optimization, esp here. If the forum can’t talk (connect) to the database for some strange reason, it should produce an error. I’ve gotten them here occasionally when connected at various locations, and optimizing seems to help.Plus, we can’t blame the board software for the status/reliability of the internet, ISP connections (be it dialup or high speed), different browsers and their setups; when it comes to cookies and temp files… nothing is perfect.
I seriously doubt that cookies or temp files have much of anything to do with this problem, at least on a modern OS like WinXP (maybe Win9x would be different). I've never deleted my TIF files and I have a program to manage cookies. As we can see, your optomization solved the problem. Were I to have deleted my TIF files and or cookies, it would have not had any affect on the problem. I'm also on a DSL connection which is up 24x7 and I didn't have any connection problems with any other sites.I still say the problem is in the software.

ibe, I haven't had this problem at all for awhile now. There was one time a while back before Josh started optimizing the database that there was a forum issue. Before that, what appeared to be a forum issue turned out to be the webhosting company doing updates on their servers unrelated directly to the internal operation of the Forums. You never know, it might help to recreate your cookies for the forums. You could use the link on the bottom of the main page of the forums to remove your Forum cookies, or use your cookie manager or do it manually. I suppose it could be a corrupted cookie problem, it has been known to happen ... even in modern OSes like WinXP and Mac OS X. I have not experienced any cookie corruption for the forums on Win98SE.

If it were a corrupted cookie, then I would be having problems now - but I don't. "Corruptions" don't fix themselves and turn on/off.

Oh, well ... it was just a thought. Like I said, I haven't seen any of this as yet. It's hard to know if you don't even see the problem happening. B)

I honestly think that every little problem that occurs at the forum is blown out of proportion... There are too many factors that can cause problems, we know the board isn't perfect; thus we need to live with it.
