If you've never done this before, it'll probably be loaded with dust, pet hair, human hair, etc. That's not a reflection on your housecleaning skills; it's just that electronic equipment tends to attract the stuff. Anyway, it wouldn't hurt to blow out the case (with a leaf blower, compressed air, whatever). You can even use a paint brush to clean vents and fan blades on the cooling fans, should you not have any means to blow the case out. After doing this, gently apply pressure to your sound card (and other plug ins) to make sure everything is still snug and tight in their slots.
