crp Posted December 5, 2011 Share Posted December 5, 2011 Is there any way to prevent people from setting up an RSS feed against our IIS7 Server? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Peachy Posted December 6, 2011 Share Posted December 6, 2011 I haven't tried this myself, but if you can figure out how to mimic the Apache style URL Rewrite directive you could block external referrers that contain .xml or .atom in their url. crp Posted December 6, 2011 Author Share Posted December 6, 2011 Well here are the log entries from the 5th. It is quite strange to me since there is NO reason for anyone to have setup an rss feed against our site. 2011-12-05 00:44:58 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 72.14.199.225 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 304 0 0 80 2011-12-05 00:44:58 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 72.14.199.225 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 304 0 0 80 2011-12-05 01:44:58 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 72.14.199.225 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 304 0 0 79 2011-12-05 02:44:57 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 72.14.199.225 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 304 0 0 81 2011-12-05 03:44:57 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 72.14.199.225 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 200 0 0 82 2011-12-05 04:44:57 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 72.14.199.225 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 200 0 0 82 2011-12-05 04:55:12 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 188.65.96.106 - 200 0 0 458 2011-12-05 05:15:17 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 128.100.20.204 Mozilla/5.0+(compatible;+BlogScope/1.0;++http://www.blogscope.net/;+U+of+Toronto) 200 0 0 100 2011-12-05 05:44:57 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 72.14.199.225 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 200 0 0 82 2011-12-05 06:44:57 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 72.14.199.225 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 304 0 0 81 2011-12-05 15:05:18 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 188.65.96.106 - 200 0 0 481 2011-12-05 16:25:54 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=comments-rss2 80 - 67.210.218.121 Rome+Client+(http://tinyurl.com/64t5n)+Ver:+0.9 200 0 0 119 2011-12-05 16:45:15 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 72.14.199.225 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 304 0 0 80 2011-12-05 17:45:15 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 72.14.199.225 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 304 0 0 131 2011-12-05 18:45:15 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 72.14.199.225 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 304 0 0 168 2011-12-05 19:45:15 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 72.14.199.225 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 304 0 0 81 2011-12-05 20:14:29 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 209.85.238.178 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 200 0 0 95 2011-12-05 20:45:29 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 209.85.238.178 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 304 0 0 15 2011-12-05 21:14:38 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 209.85.238.178 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 304 0 0 41 2011-12-05 21:45:28 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 209.85.238.178 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 304 0 0 15 2011-12-05 22:14:38 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 209.85.238.178 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 200 0 0 18 2011-12-05 22:45:29 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 209.85.238.178 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 200 0 0 144 2011-12-05 23:45:38 192.168.1.235 GET / feed=rss2 80 - 209.85.238.178 Feedfetcher-Google;+(+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html;+2+subscribers;+feed-id=7093006785303792175) 304 0 0 99 Only thing I can think of , is this how a web site monitoring program would work? crp Posted December 8, 2011 Author Share Posted December 8, 2011 friend replied to me with this - tried it on an iis 7 server and go a 403 no permission access denied - what you probably want to see. here's his suggestion: Load up http://host/?feed=rss2 and see what's there; take it down if need be. [that is, http://your-server-name/?feed=rss2] It sounds like someone has pointed Google Reader at the site. No big deal really... It shows the home page. which is just a landing page and redirects to another server. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
crp Posted December 9, 2011 Author Share Posted December 9, 2011 who set up these servers? ask them what they did to enable rss. my iis 7 server comes up with a 403... indicating to me that rss is not available. It came pre-installed (HP in 2008), I don't see any setting in the IIS for rss , but I do see a mapping for atom. does you IIS have an atom setting?
