But perfect is the enemy of good enough. Lots of other fixes that need to be widely tested.Got to leave something for PV6, and in any case, I guarantee you that there are two things that go on my HD install of PV5.kernel 2.6 andalsa 1.0.1 with latest utils

Owyn
And some info for nVidia users with this kernel. kernel-tmb-2.6.0-1.tmb.1mdk-1-1mdk.i586.rpmkernel-tmb-source-2.6.0-1.tmb.1mdk.i586.rpm wanted to let everyone know, everything is running stable, even nVidia drivers (with 2.6 patched nvidia-installer from http://www.sh.nu/download/nvidia/linux-2.6/ ).The above installers are critical! The stock nVidia installers will not work! You will want to rpm -e your old nVidia drivers, or, at cli:nvidia-installer --uninstallbefore you install the new source, and kernel.Note: to install the above (patched) nvidia-installer, you will first need to run:export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=trueMost nVidia users will be familiar with that, especially SUSE!One exception, which will not affect Via/nForce (don't know abou Ali) users, is that the SiS755 northbridge/agp bus is too new, even for this kernel. Agp is disabled, for now, but I'm only seeing about 10% performance hit. I usually get 2800fps with my GeForce2 GTS Pro, now I'm getting about 2500. Not too bad, considering that I'm finally running a 2.6 kernel, and there are a lot of (admittedly perceived) performance boosts.

Owyn
does alsa 1.0.1 require the 2.5 kernel? No, but it has to be backported, to a 2.4 kernel. You could do it yourself, but, packaged versions should be available fairly quickly, eg: the tmb kernels. See the alsa site for instructions.Needed to get this done ASAP to prepare for testing with PCLos PV5.

Owyn
LOL.Just finished checking cooker mailing list. tmb "-4mdk is compiling right now". And I know of at least one other bug that tmb "will look into tomorrow".Just stay with the stock kernel for now. Seems reliable. I have it on my Desktop Mdk92 Linux system (the one I do most of my browsing and office functions from) and have not seen any problems so far. ie. It has gone to production use as far as I am concerned.Might want to start a lottery for which version it will be (7mdk??) before the tmb kernel gets to beta worthy. Still strictly alpha as far as I can see.

Recommend updating to the 2.6.0-1mdk kernel to:- get later (but not final) alsa- automatically pick up the fixes- go with a "standard" kernel config instead of the experimental config(s) that Olivier was using- support new cooker/2.6 packagesI am also planning to update the desktop system to the stock kernel2.6.1/alsa1.0.1 when available. As I said, I consider it to be ready for prime time now and I want to get as many hours on it as possible.Should be no measurable performance differencences. The tmb 2.6 kernels are strictly for test boxes (or live cds).I was going to try the tmb kernel on a HD install of PV4, but, have now put it on hold until PV5 available and tmb 2.6.1 stabilizes. My 2cents. . . . . also no LM sensors yet ?Correct. I expect them to be supported first with the tmb kernel.
