I just ran across this tutorial on how to install/setup XMonad and I thought it was a good addition to the Archwiki entry so I figured I would share it:

As you may already know from my previous post, I've switched to xmonad after more than a year using Openbox. And since I got many compliments and questions for my xmonad config, I think everyone will be interested in a guide about how to set up and configure xmonad.

This guide, in fact, is based on John Goerzen's tutorial about how to set up and configure xmonad with xmobar. However, I think John's config is not very good-looking and quite outdated so you will see many new additional stuffs in my guide. I created my xmonad config with the aim of creating a simple and clean desktop with a status bar that has all the system infomation that I care about so xmobar and trayer are my chosen apps. Also, my laptop has a French keyboard layout so I will show you how to set up xmonad for this keyboard layout and how to incorporate special laptop keys into your xmonad keybindings..........

First off, if you are interested in trying Xmonad out, I would advise that you start with the Arch wiki entry first and then use this as an extra guide. I know the configuration looks daunting (written in haskell) but Xmonad has a really good default setup so really you only have to change a couple of things and there are some examples available via the wiki. I have been using XMonad for the last 2 years (posted about it here) and I have not had to mess with the configuration any since I originally set it up. Xmonad is also one of the most popular tiling window manager among the arch forums but there are also lots of other ones as well. Here are my config files: ~/.xmonad/xmonad.hs and my xmobar (status bar) ~/.xmobarcc if your interested.

Also, here are a few other good links on Xmonad:

How to get a productive desktop based on xmonad and xmobar?

Thanks for the post Josh,

I actually installed XMonad on the laptop months ago and added it to the .xinitrc file but have not had a chance to configure it yet. Enjoy OpenBox so much but thinking with running dual monitors on the desk top that tiling might come in handy. ;)

At least with the links you have posted, making the transition will be much easier when I decide to jump in.
