Thanks EdP,LOL! Wouldn't you know it, I looked at the time on your post and didn't look at the time on the others! Good lesson ...don't assume...you know where that leads! LOL!

Don't let anyone else know, but I heard Arena2045 had to close the forum down for a state health inspection. Sad to say, I also heard the cafeteria lost it's B rating.

RATS!!!Those little brown things in the mashed potatoes were not spices…--The minor outages might have been caused by a heavy string of database backups, and optimization.

Think in the future we could schedule these for off peak times? And post a schedule so we can plan accordingly?

Ed: Ah… No.… joking. No seriously, if the short outages were caused by the behind-the-scenes work (which I have no proof either way), the work was totally unexpected and most of it was not under our control. New versions of some server side utilities were updated, and the web host made a number of backups of the database as well as optimized it (which shaved off a few MBs).Routine backups are scheduled at off peek hours, as are database optimizations. If known outages are expected, there will be posts made in the  SFNL Forum Announcements forum.

I assume you pay for the web hosting service. Therefore I think you have the ultimate control. :)BTW my "user posted image" was only 13K. There are thumbnails posted that are bigger. Maybe adding a line to the thumbnail thread specifying image sizes in KB in addition to pixels would be good.

Scot has given the Highlanders a great place to hang out, get help, help others and just have fun and it has been available 24/7 except for minor issues since it began. That is quite an accomplishment. Thanks Scot and Arena2045 for making it so and keep up the good work. I really appreciate the work you guys put into this wonderful free service. :D

Nice theory, but your at the mercy of the servers. Glitches are going to happen regardless of where you site is hosted. Nobody has any control over it, if something goes down all they can do is contact their host, who usually contacts another host to find the problem. I'm here a lot and hardly see problems and they have gone out of their way to get this site stable. Thanks Scot for thinking of us!

True but that's not what was said.

I've run a corporate LAN, I know the difference between server hiccups and a new tech not taking into account the impact of his/her actions. This was routine maintenance that should have been done at 2:30am Sunday morning. I'm not taking shots at Scot or any of the forum admins who donate their time here. This is an excellent forum and I'm proud to be a part of it. But I don't have the same allocades for the webhost at this point. If the webhost is poorly managed or doesn't hear the concerns of it's clients the best way to get it's attention is to move the money. While the forum is free to us it's not free to Scot.imo

:) those are the times I am here mainly and where it is 2:30am in the morning for you - it's peak time for someone else. I have night shifts at work so I keep up with forums during that time and usually miss out on the day time hours due to sleep. It's tough to have a time that is fair for everyone.

How about 7:35am Sunday mornings? Nobody gets up early on Sundays.
I'm gett'n awfully dern tired of being referred to as "Nobody" B) :o *I tend to follow Franklin's adage...And while my Sagacity and Bank Account may not be that great, my health is pretty good :o Besides...That's mid-day in Amsterdam. A certain, prominent Penguin may have something to say about this :D *Just Jesting, of course :o

:D yea it's tough when you got people from all around the world and trying to do routine maintanence. Like someone says when they want a beer at noon - "well, it's five o'clock some where in the world" l
