wa4chq
as Alfred Hitchcock would say...Good Evening...Well I'm hooked up and blazing using Mint 10, live booting from the flash drive.....in fact I'm sending this reply with all the goodness that it provides. This has been the best results so far. Now that I know about slowing the rate down, that seems to be a factor although I could not make or keep a connection with the other live distros I've tested the past couple of days....I'm one happy linux dude, and I really do want to thank all of you for all of the input...without it I would not have been sending this....thnx again....neil
V.T. Eric Layton
Does your neighbor know you (and the rest of the marina denizens probably) are piggy-backing off his bandwidth?
wa4chq
Does your neighbor know you (and the rest of the marina denizens probably) are piggy-backing off his bandwidth? Well right now, I'm not at the marina...but I will be canceling Verizon at the end of the month. A fellow on a Cat is at the marina until late Sept. and he's the one that told me about the Alfa awus036h. We have an wifi for transients and slip renters at the marina and I will be joining them soon....gotta be connected! It looks like I may have to either live using Mint 10 live on the flash and keep Ubuntu for in town or back up every thing and just install Mint. I was kinda hoping ArchBang would work for me....I wonder if I'd have luck using this gizmo with Slack?Anyway, I'm pleased so far...so far, I haven't dropped connection! Hey, what was pulling that lappy through the water? Floppy Flipper??take care

wa4chq
Major Breakthru I'm using the lappy with Ubuntu this morning and decided to try the wireless gizmo antenna again. One thing I didn't do before when testing was issue the command to shut wlan0 down. Well I did that followed by starting wlan1...did a scan for connections and there were a few more then yesterday. Brought up wicd-curses and asked to connect to the one that was 'open' and it connected like it had been doing it for all its little life! Well I'll be! So I think I see what I was doing wrong with the other flavors....Hope you all have a nice day....
