Guest ThunderRiver Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 Pick one :)I love Grand Theft Auto III, Metroid Prime, and Command and Conquer Generals Grand Theft Auto Vice City will come out on the 13th of May :)On the side note, The Matrix Reloaded will come on on the 15th of May! Quote
GolfProRM Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 Man... don't know what to pick!! I'm really big into the Unreal series for PC (played a bunch of Unreal Tournament 2003, but like the original UT better)... It's pretty much either that or Master of Orion III (turn-based strategy game) right now... Of course my all-time favorite game series is the Final Fantasy Series. I've been playing them since FFIII came out on the Super Nintendo... I just bought FF Origins (FFI and FFII remastered for the Playstation), to complete my set of all the US released FF games! :)Then in my spare time, I like to mess around with SimGolf It's a great stress reliever! havnblast Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 no Tribes 2 selection - no vote - I play Tribes 2 --- love that game, can play it for days on end if I want to. I do want to get Battlefield, hear that is great game, but will need to update video card first. Quote
Stryder Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 MOHAA....fell in love with that game within five minutes of playing it.My all time fav though is Military Madness. It was originally released for the old Turbografx. One of the best strategy games I have ever played. Quote
GolfProRM Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 MOHAA....fell in love with that game within five minutes of playing it.MOHAA (Medal of Honor: Allied Assault for those who don't know)... what a great game. My brother got me hooked on that one; he and his college buddies are always playing it. It's a wonder they actually get homework done! Quote

Stryder Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 Topic moved out of Q&A: Answers to Tough Questions and into The Water Cooler. Yeah, I felt the same way, but considering a mod put it in there I was hesitant to take it out. Quote

Guest ThunderRiver Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 Oh sure, if you guys think it is the place where it belongs. Initially, I thought of game as "software" related (well, it is game, but still a piece of software), so I post it in there. Besides, the definition of "WaterCooler" is for topics that have nothing to do with software nor forum problem...Just one little suggestion, perhaps whenever you move it, make sure you leave out the link? That's what I do, because it has been known that "the thread starter" will check back, and then often end up with another new threads like "Where is my thread??"ThunderRiver Quote
Guest ThunderRiver Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 Also, I am sorry about the "few" selections. If you guys check out the poll, it only gives you up to 10 Max. I thought about including "Unreal Tournament", but a lot of people have told me that the newest one is not as great as the first one, so since I want to post the newest releases, I have omited it for good.Age of MythologyFligh Simulator 2003Unreal Tournament 2003Downtown RunRed Faction IIX man - Wolverine's RevengeThe Matrix - Reloaded (the game.. will be out in May)are a few lists of game titles that I could not fit in Quote

Besides, the definition of "WaterCooler" is for topics that have nothing to do with software nor forum problem...Sorry if I offended anyone by moving it. I never saw it in the "Software" (Windows and Applications) forum. I saw it in the Q&A: Answers To Tough Questions forum, and moved it out of there because I didn't think it had anything to do with answering tough questions. Maybe I should have moved it to Windows and Applications, or maybe we should consider having a separate gamers' forum. I didn't leave a "topic moved" marker in the Q&A forum because I was under the impression that when we move a topic in IPB forums, the IPB forum software automatically redirects people from the message's old URL to its new URL. I think that's how it works on my IPB forums. Isn't it working that way on these forums? Quote
Stryder Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 You were right CB, it was in Q&A. As far as leaving a link when you move something, you need to tell it to do so. Maybe this is a setting that can be changed so that it automatically does it. The first time I moved something I was like "Hey???? why didn't it leave a link?". Then I seen the next time that it gave you an option to do so or not. Quote
Guest ComputerBob Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 Hi Stryder,I must not have explained myself correctly. I was aware that I had the option to leave a link in the Q&A forum when I moved the games topic out of there. I chose not to leave a link there because the thread was relatively new, and because I was under the impression that, even if you try to go directly to the URL of the topic before it was moved, the IPB forum software automatically takes you to its new URL. I didn't think about the possibility that the topic starter would go back to the original forum and worry that it wasn't there any more. Sorry. Quote
teacher Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 I have to admit that I voted for Metroid and Zelda but my last Nintendo was a super nintendo. My sister and I used to do head-to-head battles in Dr. Mario--at least until the carpel tunnel set in . My favorite computer game is the Hoyle Puzzle Games. They have one called "Star Catcher" on it that just keeps getting more difficult. I have been playing the same game for months. I guess I am a logic puzzle type of person! Gotta try to keep the brain cells fresh. Quote
Guest LilBambi Posted April 21, 2003 Posted April 21, 2003 Hey folks --Moved this one to Windows and Applications. I think it will be found here better.ComputerBob --Thanks for moving this thread initially out of Q&A and can certainly understand why you moved it to the Cooler initially. I agree it was a hard call. Hopefully we will have a gaming section in time Quote

I've never been a Gamer...But now that I have a PC with some decent graphics and sound hardware (and a little speed), I might try. I've been interested in reading the recommendation on this thread, but it seemed every time I tried to find it, it was someplace else. (I think the first time it moved... there was no "moved" notice) Anyway...Hope its stays put for a while. Oh!, BTW & FYI...LabRat says that if this thread moves ONE MORE TIME... Both of you will replace GolfProRM at the top of his Hit List Quote

I know it's your job to moderate the board and it's posts, but maybe it's getting out of hand? :DOkay... back on topic. If any of you like long, drawn-out games, lots of thinking/strategizing, and great multiplayer games, give Master of Orion III a shot! It's a turn-based space strategy game that's incredibly deep, yet very entertaining... It's also a great way to kill a weekend! Quote
Guest LilBambi Posted April 21, 2003 Posted April 21, 2003 Hey, it's a gaming thread ... just wanted to get everyone into the "ping pong" feel of a good game!Actually, the thread is better here and I did leave a (Moved Thread) trail in the Cooler .. so you can get to it there as well LOL! Quote

Guest LilBambi Posted April 21, 2003 Posted April 21, 2003 Bob --LOL! Good one! BTW: Regarding games ... three of my all time favorite games still are:[*] Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure (DOS Based)[*] Duke Nukem 3D (DOS based)[*] Quake (Although I can't play the newer version which look awesome!)Gonna have to keep Win98se around even if I don't do the Internet with it after June 2003! I may be using only Linux after that myself for Internet use. Not sure yet though.(Users of Win98se! Don't forget ... Win98se falls off the earch in M$ eyes June 2003 (unless they change their mind about it) ... all security update and free support will be gone. )BTW: ComputerBob -- thanks for the tip on using [*] with out the list function above and below as seen in the Test Forum .. works great! Haven't played GalCiv yet... live on a small budget, so don't get to try everything... MOOIII takes a bit to get into, but after about 8 hours, it's pretty cool... there have been some bad reviews about MOOIII and it has some negatives, but I've probably played 150+ hours since I bought it... T_Downey Posted April 21, 2003 Posted April 21, 2003 My all time favorite would probably be the gl mod for the original Quake, otherwise known as glQuake. I'll never forget when I got Quake, then shortly thereafter I bought the original voodoo card and then downloaded and installed the gl mod. It was my first look at the future of video gaming graphics and I'll never forget it. Quake was a great game with spooky sounds effects and music supplied by Trent Reznor of NIN (currently working on the sounds for Doom 3), and great gameplay, levels, and visuals. Runner up awards go to the original Doom which I still occassionally play thanks to Final Doom which has the Win95 version and runs on WinXP just fine. There's just something about that game. Great atmosphere and levels despite it's age. Finally the original Unreal. Another eye opener in the graphic department in its day and at that time my P133 would barely run it. The great thing about that game was the way they blended the levels and it was long game! How sad we rarely see that in FPS games now. As far as modern day gaming, I suppose I'd have to say Morrowind since I spent nearly a year playing it almost exclusively. If you have the horsepower to run this game in all its graphic glory, it's truly a world you can escape to and get lost in. Quote
Guest LilBambi Posted April 21, 2003 Posted April 21, 2003 Wow! Doom ... how could I have forgotten to put Doom in the list of all time favorites! Thanks for reminding me!Also ... our first real look at 3-d gaming ... Wolfenstein! Quote

WeldedShut Posted April 26, 2003 Posted April 26, 2003 A vote here for an OLDER but SUPERIOR game. New is not always better. My all-time favorite PC game is Peter Jacobson's Golden Tee Golf. Best PC golf game ever coded, period. Internet match & tournament play included with free 24/7 server access. It's popularity shows itself in a big way even in your local sports bars and pubs. An Open World Championship Tournament, and local tournaments with cash prizes. This game has it all, for the casual player, or the serious alike. There are guys and gals out there making a living off this game. Absolutely addicting to the golf lover. Quote
havnblast Posted April 26, 2003 Posted April 26, 2003 Oh yea Golden Tee Golf is good - got that one installed too. Quote
