Modem and DVD drive won't play nice

Everytime I try to watch a movie on my DVD player (Compaq DVD-ROM GDR8160B) while connected to the internet (with my HSP56 Micromodem) I get disconnected. When I leave the movie on and try to reconnect, it won't allow me (it just says "Cannot access remote computer" or something to that effect).Any ideas on what the problem could be?

It could be possible that your system uses up all its CPU power to process DVD, which results in such disconnection. If your modem is WinModem, it is controlled by Windows, and it will uses up certain amount of CPU power as well. You might also have IRQ conflicts, such as sharing the same IRQ for both modem and DVD drive. It can happen too.
