Corrine Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Sweet! Device management is one of my favorite features on Windows 7. Seems to work well with both new and old hardware. Quote
Frank Golden Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Nice Colin, You've been agonizing over installing Win 7 for a long time now.Your decision now is what machine to install it on.Pick your most capable machine and if you decide to use the 64 bit version max out your ram for that machine. This assumes you install on a 64 bit machine.Don't activate until you make sure your hardware will work with the 64 bit OS.Remember that this is Windows and not a Linux distro, you can only install on one machine so choose carefully. To install on another machine you need another copy of Win 7. kamicota Posted April 3, 2010 Author Posted April 3, 2010 (edited) Thanks Corrine and FrankAnd yep my forays into Windows 7 have been haphazard to say the leastUp to now it could be the NEWEST AMD Quad or the soon to arrive Samsung Lappy.Think it will be the 32bit though Frank - software for 64 bit may a sticking point.Lappy has 1.5GB ram and the Quads have 4GB Yet thought it might go on two computers silly MOI Hu???Cheers for YearsColin Edited April 3, 2010 by kamicota Quote
tommyj12 Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 (edited) Don't be afraid of 64 bit Colin, I haven't had a single app or issue running 32 bit stuff, even back when I was even running vista. Wow 64 makes 32 bit kinda pointless Edited April 6, 2010 by tommyj12 Quote
kamicota Posted April 6, 2010 Author Posted April 6, 2010 Thanks TommyWill truly consider it when it arrives - Thought also as there was ONLY 4GB ram it may have been pointless to go 64bit alsoCheers for yearsColin Quote
Frank Golden Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 (edited) glad to here more supported hardware success stories. and drawing tablets to boot!on the other hand, my hp lj 1012 is ==not== supported in 7, but w/vista drivers, it prints. later. much later. as in, go get coffee.Temmu, have you tried software from HP?Sorry, just checked HP site, looks like you only have Vista drivers. Bummer. How about installing the Vista drivers in compatibility mode?Colin, 64 bit will in theory allow you to use all of the 4 GB.It will also make use of more ram if you upgrade to more.Your Ultimate package will have both 32 bit and 64 bit DVD'sYou can try 64 bit just don't activate until you know everything will work.During setup you will have the option (selected by default) to auto activate.Unselect it. You can activate manually later after deciding 32 bit or 64 bit. Edited April 13, 2010 by Frank Golden Quote
kamicota Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 Thank you FrankWhat timing just got the two DVD's from the Post Office this last 10 mins or so.So will bear that in mind even though 4GB of ram is sufficient for me at this timeCheers for yearsColin Quote
