GolfProRM Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 Talking about quicklaunch buttons got me thinking, what do people's taskbars look like?In my case, I keep it pretty simple. Run the bar along the bottom, start menu on left, quicklaunch icons (Windows explorer, IE, Mailwasher, Winamp). Nothing else but open programs until I get to the systray. In my tray are Mailwasher, Trillian pro, Zone Alarm, McAfee Virussheild and console. The clock rounds out my taskbar. I'm sure there are quite a few people who make more use out of their taskbars (maybe running two rows or more with links or web address... ). I'm curious to see who other "geeks" use theirs! Quote
havnblast Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 Well lets see in Windows I got the Start button - Quick Launch - Sys Tray usually has norton, icq, yahoo messenger, MS Outlook, network connections. The task bar only shows what current apps I have but otherwise I try to keep the systray as little as possible. I only like to have running what I start up. Quote
GolfProRM Posted April 10, 2003 Author Posted April 10, 2003 I try to keep the systray as little as possible. I only like to have running what I start up.I understand this completely... other than my mail and messenger programs, the only things running are AV and firewall... I love the XP systray where you can hide the icons... I keep my messenger (trillian) and mailwasher showing, and hide the rest.... no need for them to be showing if I rarely click on them Quote
eksimba Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 Mine is somewhat uncluttered, although I like mine two rows tall - the top row for the quicklaunch toolbar, and the bottom for my application buttons. My system tray autohides the few programs I have running... (antivirus, firewall, etc.). Quote
zox Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 I have most of the programs I run in my Quick lunch bar (their shortcuts) at the moment. This way I avoid cluttering desktop which is always tidy and clean.I hate stupid "Start" button.Too many clicks to get what you want, even with most organized menu (too lazy I guess) :DI used to make three separate Toolbars and I would lined them up in one large autohide toolbar on right side. Each of the three was category of programs such as "GRAPHIC", "INTENET" and "UTILITIES" with corresponding shortcuts.I like it that way but just recently got me new WD 8 Mb 80 Gb drive and loaded sysytem from scratch, so it will take me a while untill I get loaded all software I use and create Toolbars. jbredmound Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 OK, I've got my MSNBC Desktop News, Pop Up Stopper, AVG, RamBooster, Robo Form, Norton, Weather Channel Desktop Weather, and Zone Alarm. Also Go Back, but that was recently uninstalled while I did a project, and will go back on tomorrow.Oh, and MyNetWatchman...I love being part of Lawrence Baldwin's thing. No wonder I'm confused! Quote
SonicDragon Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 Silver XP Theme.Green Start button.Quick Launch w/ 4 buttons - Mozilla, Trillian, Word, and Show Desktop. >> (click arrows to expand) Navigator, Opera, Open Office, IE.In system tray (which i have set up to hide what's not active) Sygate Fire WallNortonLeechGet (download manager)VolumePrinter IconWebShots (desktop wall paper changer)(that i don't really use anymore...)Then the time I never though of putting win exploror in the quick launch! Good Idea! Of course, it's just as easy to Windows+E Quote
muckshifter Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 Nothing of intrest ... [window key] and the "I" key get me to where I'm going. Quote
Haydn Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 What's up with all the minimalist "no clutter" bars? I say buy lots of memory and leave it all open all the time!I'm not sure I could live without at least two buttons on the quick launch - "show desktop" and "windows explorer". Quote
Guest ThunderRiver Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 That's mine. The theme is called LunaNet, and I use hacked uxtheme.dll to enable themes that aren't part of xp Quote
